Spin off to table foods
DD will be 11 months next week. I am still giving her purees because I am so nervous about choking. I have tried several times giving her very soft table foods of even pieces of a very ripe pear, banana, avocado, etc. and she almost always chokes. I freak out and freeze, several times I had to stick my finger in her mouth to scoop out the food.
I don't want to hold her back but am terrified of her choking. Any advice from moms who had similar experiences?

Re: Spin off to table foods
I was in the same situation, DS did not like the textures of the table foods and took him a while to get onto table food, maybe 13 months is when he started eating more table foods. I was worried that I was holding him back but he is fine now (15 months) he eats mostly table foods and very occasionally we give him a jar of purees (last time was when he was sick and would not eat anything and I wanted to get something into him). One food my DS enjoyed at first was pancakes b/c they were soft, you can try that maybe.

Spin off to table foods
Table food took DS a long time to get used to. Just start with tiny tiny pieces. Soft foods but not sticky. They will get it but its normal; for them to gag on it in the beginning.

Re: Spin off to table foods
DS gagged in the beginning but mostly because it was a new texture, not because he was actually choking. Make sure the foods are cut tiny so she physically can't choke. Did you start with puffs or yogurt melts? These dissolve in their mouths so they don't choke but learn how to gum the food. I also started with a lot of banana, mashing it up, but serving it thicker over time until he could just eat whole pieces himself.

Spin off to table foods
I have done puffs, Cheerios (broken in half), and gerber cheese puffs and she's fine with all those but they obviously aren't meals and I'd prefer healthier choices.

Re: Spin off to table foods
Thought I was the only one. DD doesn't seem into the whole table food thing yet. She will spit it out or make gagging sounds. I was afraid too that I'd hold her back because of this but I keep trying. I gave her mashed potatoes today and after a while she seemed ok. So you are not alone here.
