sorta spinoff...breast feeding related...why is it that some formula bottles
say "breast milk is best but..." on them?
I thought that was weird. like, breast milk is best, but if you aren't going to breast feed, we are closest to it.
I just don't understand why they would write that on the bottle at all.

Maybe bc if your baby hates their bottle or gets gassy it's their "get out of jail free" card.

What bottles are these? I didn't know any bottle was a "formula bottle". I've tried several bottles and only give DD breast milk.
What's the rest of the sentence... "breast milk is best but..."?
I think she means on the bottles of Enfamil, similac, etc.

I believe they are trying to say "Breast is best" but some woman do not want to or can not breast feed. I guess they are offering other options.

YES...this is why I am like...
I received a free bottle of some super advanced Similac at the doctor the other day and as I was reading the bottle (um, I was at the dr. for four hours...you start to get desperate for entertainment after a while ) I noticed it said that.
so then I looked at other brands/cans/containers at the store and saw that some others say it too...
I can see nancy's reasoning...a liability thing if your child doesn't progress or something...but really....I just don't see the need. it's weird to me.

Honestly, I could probably research it more, but I think it is something that is mandated on formula companies. Much like the warning on cigarettes. The truth is that breast feeding is much better for your baby, formula is just not as good. The particluar wording, I believe is a compromise made by corporations to acknowledge that "breast is best" but without saying that "really we are not as good as breast feeding"
as my own disclaimer:to each his own, I know for some formula is their best option for their own personal reasons....

I agree-I think they should stamp it "because mothers know best".
As in, we each know what is best for our babies and family.

Is there maybe some kind of gov't regulation or law? It sounds a bit like the big tobacco co's having to put right on their packaging that smoking leads to cancer.

I think it's because they want the support of hospitals, doctors, etc, who all need to be seen as pushing BFing. I don't think it's a law, it's just another example of how much of a big business babies/pregnancy are.

My pediatrician told us that the formula companies advertise in saying things like "new and improved - closer to breast milk" because breast milk is the perfect food for babies and that the formula companies are forever trying to duplicate it. He was trying to sell me on BFing when he said it.
I wasn't swayed and my child will not be breast fed. Sorry!
