Sort - of spin off: What are your thoughts about the Swine Flu vaccine?

NOT trying to stir up ANYTHING. Just wondering what others thoughts are on this?

I for one will NOT get my children vaccinated. IMO, the vaccine is "too new" and has not really been studied extensively for side effects or for any possible long term effects.



What are your thoughts?

DS will not get it. To my knowledge it has not been tested on children.

I am not against flu shots. DS got one last year.

This vaccine it too new for me.

I am undecided. I have concerns because it is new, but I also have concerns because children under 1 cannot take Tamiflu, and H1N1 can be very severe, or even fatal for infants. I will talk to my ped about it when the time comes.

I really am leaning towards it to be honest. I want to talk to my ped first, but I really think there is going to be a bad outbreak this winter, and I know it's not a guarantee for DD to not get it, but I'd rather take as many precautions as possible....We'll see what my ped has to say....

I did not think that it was ready. I guess I will talk to my ped about it and see what she says.

If my Ped recommends it then yes DS will get it. In my opinion there are vaccinations out there for a reason. I am not a doctor and I fully trust DS Ped. DS is in daycare and I like to make sure that he is protected from whatever we can protect him from. He has had all of his shots on time and has only had a side effect from the MMR though I do not regret giving it to him. Just my opinion. Everyone knows what is best for their DC.

What little I have read of the swine flu vaccine - there is no way in H E L L I would give it to my DD.

I don't think we're getting it. My cousin is a high school student in Brooklyn who contracted H1N1 earlier this year and he said that taking Tamaflu made him sicker than he was before he went to the doctor.

We will not be getting it. To me the whole swine flu thing is a media frenzy. The chances of you or your kids getting swine flu are so small.

I have to talk to my pediatrician and get her opinion on the safety of this vaccine, and do a little research also. I haven't yet, but it's hitting me that I should soon.

I don't want to leave DS unprotected, but I do have concerns about this shot.

We will be skipping this one too. It is way to new for me to take a chance!

I haven't discussed with the Ped yet but I am leaning toward no.

I will NOT have my son vaccinated with this or the regular FLU vaccine.

No. Too new! I don't feel like having my kids be the guinea pigs... look at the potentially deadly side effects of the original rotovirus vaccine when it first came out.
