Some people are just dealt the worse cards in life
I found out today, that my old boss, who my old team was super close with, son committed suicide over the weekend.
She just lost her brother who was like her soul mate to cancer a couple weeks ago.
She is going through a divorce.
She has been the rock holding her mother, father, SIL and her SIL's children together with the loss of her brother.
And there are issues with one of her other children.
I just don't know what to even say to her........

Just be there for her incase she wants to talk... I dont know what you can say to her right now...maybe Just say I'm sorry and if you ever need someone to talk to I'm here for you.

My friend called me first thing with the news. She said that the job is saying that we shouldn't reach out to her this week. She's Jewish so they are sitting shiva (spelling).
I am thinking of just sending her a text to her phone to let her know I am thinking of her. I know there's really nothing to say or do in these types of situations.

How does that work? Do you just show up?
The HR dept. won't give anyone her address. My friend and I (the other social worker) looked up her address online, and we are pretty sure that's her, but would that be kind of strange to just show up like that? I'm not Jewish obviously so I don't know what the protocol is.
I think he died on Friday.

Yes, if you know her address, you just show up. There will always be people at a shiva house. If he died on Friday, that usually means, the funeral was on Sunday and they would sit shiva until this Friday.

I am sure any words you say will bring her comfort.
(On a side note, pls FM if you speak w her and she needs ANY help; I do work with suicide survivors!)
