So sad today and dont know how to deal with it

My grandmother lived in her apartment for over 60 years. It was right upstairs from my mom (apartment building.) Well, today we handed the keys back to the landlord. We cleaned out the entire apartment. The home where my mom grew up. Where she saw the last of her father at 9 years of age before he went to work and died of a heart attack. The home where my sister and I would go upstairs and play secretary and have tea with Gram. The home where so many wondrous things took place.

We said goodbye to it last night. I took pictures of the empty apartment and just cried and cried. Grams was always there. My mom is having the hardest time to say the least. I cant picture not being able to go up to grams anymore or someone else living there. The landlord was so cold about it..just happy he could get in there to fix it to rent it out again.

I am just so sad. How can such memories be gone. I know we hold memories in our hearts but the pain of this one is indescribable. I dont know how to get past it. I dont know what to say to my mom. I dont know how to say goodbye to such a large piece of my grams life. Today is just such a sad day.

I'm so sorry Noreen, but just remember you will always have the memories of good times and your grandma is always looking after you.
