So frustrated with the nipple/cereal issue

DS has a mild case of reflux and he gets cereal in his bottles, as per the ped. I cut an X into the medium flow nipples because he was struggling to get the forumla out. That was too fast and he was making a mess all over himself. So, I got him fast flow and he STILL is having trouble getting the formula out. I don't want to cut the hole bigger in these nipples b/c it's clear that it is too fast for him. Does anyone have any suggestions?? I am so frustrated because I can't seem to get this right.

ETA: I use Born Free and Playtex Drop-Ins and he has the same problem with both brands of bottles.

The dr. told me to put about 1/2 teasp in each ounce. He gets 5 ounces but I've only been putting in 4 1/2 teaspoons because it seems to be working. Why give him more if it's not needed?

Isn't there something called a "Y" nipple for cereal?

With the Playtex Drop-Ins they make a variable flow nipple designed for thicker feeds. It comes with a cross cut or a y-cut already made. I'm pretty sure each of the major bottle brands sell a special nipple that has cross cuts or y-cuts already made in them designed for thick feeds.

ETA: I bought a bunch of these at BRU and from Drugstore.com:
