Slomins?? ETA: Perillo Brothers???

Any one have any feelings towards Slomins for oil?

Petro is trying to lock me in at a ridiculously crazy rate and I need a contract company because I have an older boiler....

they wanna give me 239 for a year and 109 for contract...

ETA: Also wanted to ask about Perillo Brothers...they are 2.69 ceiling right now.

Re: Slomins??

I had Petro....did not like then.

I currently am locked in with Solmans.....hate hate hate them! I think their service is horrible. We locked in when the rates were high we are at 3.99 a gallon.

March can't come soon enough when our contract is up.

Re: Slomins??

We had Petro in 2007 and thought their services were acceptable and they def. were there in emergencies - and with the contract we weren't charged.

Then we switched to Slomin's for 2008 and that was the biggest mistake. We did it to save $.20/gallon. There service has been horrible - their customer service is an abhorrence and I really don't want to resign with them.

I liked Petro's ceiling plan - at least with that, if the market goes down, we don't get sucked into paying a high rate, we get the going rate on the market.

Re: Slomins??

Slomins completely stinks. There aren't enough words to use without cursing to tell you how bad they stink.

If you have ap roblem, they take forever to get there, like 4-6 hours, which they say is "standard", even when I had to shut everything down b/c my carbon monoxide detector was going off like crazy. It was 20 degrees out and I had to open all the windows in my house to let out the CM.

We now have a new oil burner, and don't have Slomins.

yeah, but the lowest they will go is like 2.80! And the ceiling is 3.29
just feels a little pricey to me...we are on the previous ceiling rate of 3.53 from last January.

Re: Slomins?? ETA: Perillo Brothers???

I once had my entire upstairs heating zone out. No heat.

I called Slomins to have them get somebody over sometime in the evening. They said because its so cold out the earliest they can get somebody out is the following morning.

So I told them what do you expect me to do? I have bedrooms upstairs that we sleep in. Their answer was "your heat works downstairs right? sleep downstairs!". Chat Icon Chat Icon

But I also think all oil companies suck. I just dropped Slomins and the company I have now (General) will probably be worse. I just gotta hope i'll never need service and enjoy the cheaper oil I am getting over Slomins.

Re: Slomins?? ETA: Perillo Brothers???

We have Perillo - so far the only problem we have is that they delivered oil twice in 3 weeks. Seriously?

DH called to bittch them out and they just said b/c we're new customers they were feeling out our oil use. Kinda makes sense....

When we had them hook up our burner (we got a new one) the service guy was fantastic! Don't know if he is the norm though...

I think we're locked in at $2.50 something.

I just locked in yesterday with Slomins after calling several oil companies Slomins came in the lowest.
2.39 and free contract for a year.
Petro was ridiculous, so was Meenan and Tragar.
I think Slomins is offering the best price now, if you don't want to do COD.

they DO have the best price...BUT I need good service. We called Petro 3x this year and all 3x they were awesome and there in like less than 2 hours. I have NO burner worries with them.

I cannot, with a 3 year old, even entertain the thought of no heat if something goes wrong..

Oh, I'm sorry I don't really know how their service is. Since (knock on wood) I've never had a problem with my heat.
Customer service is nice though.. not that matters. Chat Icon

Re: Slomins?? ETA: Perillo Brothers???

Locked with Slomins.

2.39 and although they are a bit of a pain to deal with they have come when I needed them.

Perillo was the best for service but this year their oil price was way out of line.

I think they all kinda stink. I heard not so good things with General so I didn't go with Heat USA. I also felt that I should lock and not let it float.

Re: Slomins?? ETA: Perillo Brothers???

Here is our experience with Slomin's - not the best...but certainly not the worst...

We had Perillo the first year we bought our home and they were terrible - took HOURS AND HOURS to come for a no heat call in the dead of winter. We had ZERO heat and a small child... I swore I would not use them again after that experience... Despite their apologies elderly and families with children need priority...

So the following year we signed with Slomin's under the assurance that we would receive priority should we have heat issues... Xmas eve of '07 we awoke to a strong smell of oil coming from our basement - no visible leaks - called immediately and they were there within 2 hrs I believe...maybe less.

Here's the reason we dislike Slomin's - last summer before our contract was officially up for renewal and oil prices were at their PEAK I called Slomin's requesting a delivery at our contract price which was good until the end of August and they REFUSED saying that we were on automatic delivery and did not need oil and could not request a top-off just b/c of the current prices.

This year we signed a cap plan with Lewis Oil and we have been less than happy... We haven't had any issues but we have an oil boiler so we can't go COD b/c we need a service contract.

Slomin's called us about 2 weeks ago and offered us a 12 month contract for $1.99 gallon!!! We were giving serious consideration to this but after calculating the cancellation fee with Lewis Oil it would not be worth it at this point. I have to hope we will still be able to get a good deal when our contract is up with Lewis...

Hope this info helps...sorry it was so long-winded Chat Icon

We have Slomins. We've had them for sometime now and my experience has not been bad but not great either. There have been times that we call for service and the come right away. Recently we called because our burner stopped and they could not send anyone until out to our home until the morning so we went all night without heat. Luckily we have a portable heater.

We recently got a price to relocate our oil tank from our garage to outside and their quote was $300 higher than the company we went with.

I think they all have their problems but have often considered switching.

Stay with Petro. Last year Christmas eve day, no heat they were there in 30 mins!!!

Pricey? Maybe. But it's worth it for the piece of mind alone.

I know...

we are NOT going with Slomins and Petro dropped from 3.16 to 3.08 from yesterday as a ceiling, so I may wait a little bit more before a final decision.

Perillo offered us a flat of 2.39 for a year with contract....

what I like about Petro is that the ceiling is the highest it will go, but we just got a delivery for 2.70 a couple of weeks ago (our ceiling is 3.53 right now from last year) so we aren't LOCKED into a rate if the oil falls (even though it falls slower than everyone else)

I have to agree. While I don't have oil service, my parents do in their house, and they also have a very old boiler. They have had Petro for years and couldn't be happier with their service ( and they have needed them a few times, especially when the oil tank in their basement sprung a leak and was leaking oil all over my parents basement!).

Peace of mind is worth a few cents more IMO.

ETA: I dealt with Slomins for our CAC and did not like them! Very pushy!

it's not a few cents...it's a dollar a gallon, so it's a pretty big difference.
