Sitting unassisted before............

.......rolling over? Is this normal? I KNOW all babies do things at their own pace......but this kid HATES tummy time, has only rolled over 1or 2 times from tummy to back and a handful of times from back to belly.

BUT he now sits for long periods of time unassisted. If he gets wobbly he can upright himself most of the time

Re: Sitting unassisted before............

DS did a tri pod sit for awhile before he started rolling consistently. I find that with my DS he does things together so he started really sitting unassisted without using his hands and then a week later started rolling everywhere.
He started crawling and within the week started pushing himself to a sitting position and pulling to a standing position.

I'm glad you posted, then I'm not the only one -- DS hates tummy time too. Everytime I put him he cries -- he lifts his head and feet and he's tummy is still on the floor. But could sit and play a long time.

I think he rather walk.

My ds can sit unassisted for a while. However he has yet to roll from his back to tummy. Chat Icon He HATES tummy time. Everytime we put him on his stomach, he immediately rolls to his back.

I have a feeling he's going to crawl late because he never wants to be on his tummy. He'll probably walk before he crawls! Chat Icon

I thought the same thing as DS never tried to crawl before he was 9 months and then about a week after he turned 9 months he just got up and did it perfectly, no falling, no rocking etc, just right across the room as if he had been doing it forever. And within 6 weeks he was walking and now nothing is holding him back!

Glad to know it's not just me! He never even did that tri pod sit I see other kids do! He literally could sit up for about 10 seconds all of a sudden on Christmas Day!

Now...... he sits without leaning on anything all!!

BUT he becomes like a turtle on his back when I put him on his bellyChat Icon He flails his arms out &kicks up & down &then cries!!

SOMETIMES if he stays happy a few minutes on his belly he will laugh & he CAN lift his upper body up, he just HATES tummy time!

Re: Sitting unassisted before............

I asked my ped because DD has only rolled from belly to back about 5 times and she's almost 8 months old.

He said that the average age for babies to roll over is 6 months because they spend so much time on their backs.

DD can sit up on her own, hold her bottle and stay on her own if she is leaning against something/someone.

She just hasn't rolled over, dispite spending a lot of time on her tummy.

I think also having two parents and two older sisters catering to her every need doesn't help the situation either. Chat Icon

Re: Sitting unassisted before............

My second DD sat up unassisted at 2 1/2 months old. She didn't roll tummy to back until right around the same time and she didn't roll back to tummy until 4 months old.

Re: Sitting unassisted before............

Rolling over is no longer considered a developmental milestone, but sitting up unassisted is. Ever since the "Back to Sleep" campaign began, babies spend less and less time on their bellies, so rolling over can happen much later than it used it (although not always).

I am feeling better now! I was kind of worrying being he is 6 1/2 months.

And today I wanted to leave him playing on his back he was having such a blast!! We were playing in his new room & he was HYSTERICAL laughing looking at his ceiling fan!!Chat Icon Chat Icon If he laughs like that all the time he can stay on his back all he wants!

DS sat unassisted before rolling both ways. He rolled back to belly early, but took months before he could do belly to back (complete opposite of DD).

Anyway shortly after sitting unassisted the rolling came.

Re: Sitting unassisted before............

Ava hated tummy time as well - always had to be sitting up.

Jack I don't remember.....

So fun when they start sitting up on their own - it's my favorite age.
