Sinus troubles and pregnancy: what do you do?

When I'm not pg, I take Zyrtec-D and two prescrip nose sprays. I have crazy congestion year round and this is the combo that works.

So now I'm not using anything except the occasional lame pregnancy-ok Sudafed, which does nothing (it's not the strong Sudafed).

I feel so sick to my stomach, and I can't figure out if it's m/s or post-nasal drip.Chat Icon

What do you guys do?

oh I didn't even think of Claritin! I'll ask my OB about it. I'll try anything.

My doctor's office said that i could take the CLaritin D, but when i went to the pharmacy and asked the pharmacist who was also pregnant she said to take the regular claritin without the D, b.c the decongestant makes your heart beat race.

that makes sense, and of course it's the D part that makes the sinus stuff so much betterChat Icon

I watched Dr. Oz yesterday and he talked about a neti pot. You basically pour warm salt water into your nostrils and it is supposed to help allergies, in some cases better than medicine!

OMG I used to have one of these! My ENT recommends them too. I'll get another one. Thank you!

Re: Sinus troubles and pregnancy: what do you do?

My sinuses and allergies have been horrible.

I've been taking either Zyrtec or Claritan once a day and Rhinocort (nasal spray) twice a day.

I also rinse my sinuses out with Ayr. It's a sinus rinse (saline) and it has been helping too.

I just saw on Oprah yesterday....Dr. Oz said that rinsing your sinuses out with salt water gets rid of the pollen and irratents and cleanses the sinus cavities.

I was told not to take the stuff with the "D." Lucky for me, I usually don't anyway. It's usually so drying that if I did not have a sore throat already, I get one. So far, I have avoided allergy pills and nose sprays but I am getting uncomfortable.

I saw that too and then on Grey's Anatomy last night they basically did the same thing on a patient, but used one of those booger balls that you use on your baby.

Ive found..that for allergy related stuff...lots and lots of saline type stuff works a lot....

There is also this NASAL DOUCHE stuff that you can buy that really clears out your nose..and is completely safe...

It has helped me through preggo allergy season..

Re: Sinus troubles and pregnancy: what do you do?

I have HORRIBLE sinus trouble and it has been UNBEARABLE with being pregnant. Under the supervision of both my OBGYN and my allergist, I am taking Zrytec and Rhinocort. I try to lay off of it when I can. However today, I feel like my head is going to explode!!!
