Should you always eat Organic???

Great post from a blogger I follow. It tells you in order (from definetely buy to buy if you have funds available) what you should buy organically.

Re: Should you always eat Organic???

I do buy organic, so I really don't need a list - but this list is not really in any kid of order. It says it is, but then they all pretty much say do not ever eat any food that is not organic. This blogger is so biased, that a person/family looking to start switching would not be able to get much useful information from this.

i just skimmed the article because i am at work, but the problem with a lot of organic is that it does contain pesticides because of runoff and so forth. you would need to get stuff that is grown in an area where all the farms around it are organic and pesticide free, too, in order to completely avoid it

I agree as well. It's very much "Buy organic no matter what!!!!". I also very much disagree with having to buy organic bananas, avocado or any other fruit/veg with a thick skin. If you're not eating the skin buying conventional is more then fine.

Thanks for sharing. The coffee thing opened up my eyes a bit. Right now, 75% of what I buy is organic. But never the coffee. It will be from now on!

Another thing to note about organic is that conventional chemical fertilizers cannot be used to grow certified organic crops.
Any crop drains the soil of needed plant nutrients and they must be replenished at every planting. Crop rotation has to take place whether using conventional or organic fertilizer, the article only mentions one side of crop rotation.

One organic fertilizer is sewage sludge that has been refined.
A lot of the bad stuff is removed from the sludge, but residual medications cannot be removed. So, sludge most likely will have traces of antibiotics, hormones and so on. The trace medications are excreted by one's body, and that is why leftover meds are not supposed to be flushed down the toilet.
Most chemical fertilizers are actually natural, mined from the earth. It's just a matter of how they are blended and what is mixed with them to create a specific formula.
Excess phosphorus is what is so bad for the waterways, it causes algea bloom and excess weed formation.
But phosphorus is needed for strong root development and it is also a major component in lawn fertilizers.
Just for the record, phosphorus is found in both organic and conventional fertilizers.

I might be biased a bit, because I am in the agricultural and chemical fertilizer business.
As with everything else, there will be those who are adamantly pro-organic and those who are not.
It's a matter of personal choice which product to consume.
