Seriously, what should I be doing to prepare for this hurricane?
I'm nervous. I feel totally clueless. DH has been through hurricanes with relatives in FL and he talks about how they have storm shutters and whatnot.
I have bars on my windows, and storm windows, so I essentially have double windows all covered by bars, so I think that's going to be an advantage at my apartment At my my mom's, she has huge picturre windows with a tree directly in front of them.. WHat should she do?
Beyond bringing in the lawn furniture at my mom's and buying bottled water I don't know what to do.
Since I have bars, do I need to take out my AC's? Should I go to my mom's or stay here? My mom's has more windows, but she has a basement..would you want to be in a basement??? Even if I don't stay here, should I still fill the bathtub?
What is the actual likelyhood that we will lose power/water?
I'm in S. Queens, a few blocks from the 2nd evac zone. Other than the blackouts, I can't remember ever having lost power.
I know I sound like a hysterical moron right now, but I really don't know what to do. This is one of those times when I wish one of us had a had still around.
I just keep hearing conflicting things like, board up the windows, move all of your stuff, to like, just stay inside and watch TV.

Like what's realistic.

Well since you dont want to read.... the obvious things are
flashlight
batteries
bottled water
non perishable food
plug bathtub full of water
