serious toddler trouble (re: new house, new sibling, no sleeping, and tantrums)

Please help!

DS is 2 1/2 and going through a really rough time. We moved to a new house about 6 weeks ago, and now have a new baby at home. He does not seem to be adjusting well - mostly to the move, but also because I was away for a few days when I had the new baby. He has told us and his grandfather that he is afraid I won't come back, etc.

SO, since he is having trouble adjusting to the new house and a little difficulty with me being occupied with the baby sometimes, he is having MAJOR tantrums and MAJOR difficulty sleeping.

For now I'm hoping someone might have a suggestion for sleeping - I am losing my mind. Either the baby is up eating, or DS is up crying and wanting me to sit in his room with him while he sleeps. If he wakes up and finds me not there he flips out. Last night they were BOTH crying. I need a solution to this asap! Chat Icon

Any suggestions for how to keep DS in his bed, sleeping and happy without me sitting there with him? I have thought about just letting him cry...but it doesn't seem appropriate to do that right now since what he is upset about is me leaving him.....I want to comfort him and help him feel secure, but I need sleep!

My DD is older than yours but has had a lot of changes recently too. She is 3 and is speech delayed so she obviously cant express what is really bothering her. We moved in April...took only a few days before she seemed to feel at home. I'm a teacher so I was off all summer with her. September came....I went back to work and she started preschool full time....plus we just had a baby last week. I was in the hospital for 4 days. After I came...she started throwing the biggest tantrums I had ever seen. Shes excited about her sister but it is going to take her time to adjust to all the changes she has been through in a month. Plus she doesnt want me to leave her side which is understandable. Everyone has told me to just be patient and that it takes time and to remember that changes turn their little world upside down. So, Im being as patient as I can be and hoping it is just a phase. Good luck with your son!!!!

I am going through something similar with my 2 1/2 year old and have been since her sister came home from the hospital three months ago. I find getting out as much as possible helps. Also having a routine and allowing a little extra attention, three books instead of her usual two etc. I also have to make sure not to let her get past that point where she becomes over tired.
