Self pay IVF - advice needed

I do not have insurance for IVF and was wondering if there were any other self pay IVF ladies out there that can give me some tips. Have been going to RSNY for IUI who said its going to be about $14,000 for IVF......and if it fails I think I have to pay the same all over again, unless they were able to freeze embryos. We are considering switching to Braverman anyway b/c he looks at immunology issues so I think I may get better total body assessment and services. What is everyone else doing? Is there any doctors that give you reduced fees for 2nd or 3rd IVF rates if the 1st doesn't work and you are self pay?
It's a huge decision to pay this much money and I want to be sure I do it with the right doctor and with the right treatment and support.
thanks!!

We are 100% OOP and I go to RSofNY. We are only doing this once because we can't afford to keep doing it.

I have heard that LI IVF has a program that depending on your age, you spend a certain amount of money and you get 3 fresh & 3 frozen cycles for that one price. Might be a good idea to look into that. With my age, the cost would be wayyyy too much.

We are OOP for IVF and see Dr. B. The immunological testing is not included in cost, and was probably another $900. Worth it for us, I got pregnant second cycle via FET.

Do you know how much dr.b was? Was there a difference in rate for the 2nd cycle?

I'm 36........I left liivf after first iui as they were so impersonal and I never met with a doctor after the consult. I've done five iuis with dr. Stelling at rsofny.....I have done the immunology testing with my obgyn and know what I have, however dr. Stelling doesn't seem to care or consider it, unlike my obgyn who is prescribing me meds to help me get pregnant. Its so crazy!!!

We paid 11.5 for fresh IVF with Dr Zapantis. This included ICSI and assisted hatching, but not medications.I was lucky enough to have my medications donated.

I had to pay OOP. There's a 3rd party (I can't remember the name) that basically lets you buy a package through them, that you can use at your RE. You pay for 1, 2 or 3 IFV cycles ahead of time and they discount it for you. For us, it wasn't worth it and we just payed OOP for what it was.

Talk to the finance office at your RE and they should give you details of any available program.

Either way, keep all your bills for medical expenses to write off on your taxes.

We did the Attain program through North Shore. It was about 18K and covers 2 fresh and 2 frozen cycles until you get your 'take home baby.' It doesn't cover any of the meds, those cost us about 5K more. We took a loan out through Springstone to pay off the Attain program.

FM me if you have any questions or want any more info. I have all the paperwork at home.

Does OB/GYN do immune testing? i never thought to ask? Otherwise even if you are not a patient of Dr. B or Dr. Kofinas, can you call them to get immune testing done anyway? SIRM I know does but they are in city- not sure if I can treck there in the a.m. and be back to teach.

Dr.p sent me to a peri in good sam who did the testing. Dr.p then did surgery andis prescribing the treatment for genetic issues. Now to decide on doc I trust. I have appt w dr. Braverman on dec.9th for consult....so far away. Wondering if I should do a consult at liivf as well as they do micro ivf and financially it may be more palatable? giving me more chances n stretching the buck. Eih.......

If I'm not mistaken, I don't think SIRM has early AM hours anyway. I believe they are 9-5; or 8:30-5..

To the OP; have you applied for the State Grant. I know the State gave money for this as of Oct 1st. I don't believe all places participated; but I know SIRM and LIIVF did. I also don't think SIRM has a waiting list; where LIIVF does.

Do you know if your facility participated in the grant?

We did our first IVF through LI IVF and It cost about $11,500 that included icsi and 6 months of storage. MY meds are about $5,300 so we paid for them upfront but took a loan through spring stone for the IVF. We had a frozen transfer a few months back at $4,500. It's so costly and now I have to do a second full round of IVF. I however just learned that at LI IVF that if you only transfer one embryo back during your fresh cycle that if it fails you can do 3 consecutive FET for one rate of $4,500. It's a good way to save a little wish we knew this during our first round because we have 2 embies frozen but for the price for a few extra thousand I'd rather do another cycle bc I also have a rare auto immune disease.

I do have insurance but will be running out soon. Even though I have insurance IVF 2 cost me 5k.

Dr. Zapantis is my RE so if you have any questions just ask.

After my 2nd failed IVF I called Dr. Braverman to see if I wanted to consult with him. When I called, the office staff said the consult is $900! They take Out of Network benefits which I have but I think I would still have to pay a lot for the consult. Also I asked and his hours are 9-4. No way I would make it to work since I work at 8am and I don't have the option of ever being late.

I made an appointment with SIRM in the city bc they take my insurance. They believe in immune issues so I figure I can bring my records and get testing done with them. I will only have to pay a copay for the consult. I expect that all of the bloodwork will be expensive and not covered by insurance. I don't know how I would sing actually going to SIRM but if I like them I may have to wait until the summer when I am off to cycle.

I wish more REs on LI believed in immune issues.

I'm DOE too. How much did Braverman cost you? Kofinas? When I called Braverman's office they weren't too helpful with explaining OON benefits. They were very vague about everything. How did you make it to appointments with having to be teaching in the am? So your first step was to go to Kofinas? Then you brought your records to Dr. B? Thanks for the info
