Selecting Home Security Systems
With all the recent craziness going on around Long Island I want to look into getting an alarm system ASAP! 3 questions what companies do you recommend? Does installation cost a lot? and Typically how much does it cost a month? Thanks!!!

Do a search on the home forum here. The question comes up just about every week and there are a lot of recommendations. We use VMS security and we've been very happy with their service. You can find contact info on one of my recommendations on the home forum.

we have ADT (Formerly broadview) and we pay $36.99 a month;
when we bought our house it was already alarmed with a private security guy. We had quite a few issues in the 2 years we used his servivce (false alarms, bad and/or outdated equipment) so we switched. They had to rewire the lines to our digital phone line and we installed glass breaks in the upstairs and downstairs which cost us. But in the end I think we only spent a few hundred..maybe $250 for the installation and equipment.

We used Banner Alarm and they were AMAZING!!!! They did an incredible installation job. We have a motion detector, every single window in the house is armed, every door is armed, and they even armed our attic hatch since it's in the garage. We are also hooked up to Central Service. It cost $63 every three months for monitoring so about $252/yr. The installation (back in 2005) was around $1400-1600. BEST money we ever spent!!!

I have Solomon's because the wiring was in when I bought the house. We had to get the wiring re-done after construction and it was really expensive. I don't like them at all. I think it is a sketchy company which isn't cool since they are supposed to be protecting my home.

we just had a brand new alarm installed - everything old was ripped out. it took 2 days, almost 2800 after everything but totally worth it.
it is state of the art. we can arm/disarm from our phones or online. we can also monitor everything from our phones/online.
we use Rainbow
