Seeking Out A Specialist
On my most recent sonogram the ob was only able to see a yolk sac. I am 7 weeks. He believes that the cause was a blighted ovum. It hurts but my DH and i are going to continue trying. We will not give up.
For those of you who have seen a specialist, did this come at the recommendation of your regular OB or did did you take it upon yourself to seek out a specialist?

First of all ....It is too early to diagnose this as a blighted ovum....R u sure youre 7 weeks?...you may have ovulated later than you think and may just be earlier in your pregnancy...
I suggest you wait a week and go back to your OB for another sono...
My thoughts and prayers are with you....
I have something similar happen to me and turns out everything was perfect!!

I was under the impression that if the sac was empty it was a blighted ovum...

Answer
A blighted ovum is a common cause of early pregnancy loss. It occurs when a fertilized egg develops a placenta and membrane but no embryo. A blighted ovum usually occurs in the first few weeks of pregnancy — often before a woman even knows she's pregnant. An ultrasound will show an empty gestational sac. Blighted ovum is often due to chromosomal abnormalities in the fertilized egg.
I woudl hold off and get another sonogram, just in case.

The doctor thinks I had a blighted ovum and I was 6 weeks when I miscarried. It can happen early in the pregnancy, its just that most women don't even know that they are pregnant when it happens.
Did they take your blood work? This will be able to tell you if it's a viable pregnancy or not. I hope everything works out for you!!!
