School teachers...need your help....legal matters w/ out of state parent

someone down here had her granddaughter taken away by her mother to live in Bellport.

The father tries to get custody but then the mother claims he is stalking her, etc. I'm not sure what GA laws are....

but what is he legally entitled to through the schools? Can he contact the school and request copies of report cards or if there are concerns with the girls' living situation can he be contacted?

I can't speak for Georgia law...but I can tell you what our experience was.

The school (in NJ) would not let us register my step-daughter, until we provided court documenation stating that my DH had custody...at the time, he had joint custody with his ex, but the documents stated that he had "physical custody" which meant she lived with us.

She missed the first 3 weeks of school because of all the going back and forth with the lawyers and court to get the papers...and the school would not accept her without it.

So...in this case, does the father who has the daughter in Bellport, have custody papers?

ETA: When she lived with her mother...DH would call the school and ask them for copies of the report card and any important type stuff becuas the ex never sent any of it. The school did send him stuff via fax...but this was also upstate NY, so maybe they are a little more lax up there, than in the NJ/NY metro area where we are now.

Like Kim said, he is definitely going to need some sort of paperwork - custody agreement, or even excerpts from a divorce that state he is entitled to get copies of things.

I believe in NY, if you pay child support, you are automatically entitled to see records and stuff.

I know that my school is extremely strict about who sees things, who can speak for a child, who can meet with/see teachers, current restraining orders, etc.
