Do you find yourselves spending a lot of money just to get out of the house, like going shopping or out to lunch or on gas?

not really. Although I work P/T. You can meet other moms in the park, for playdates, or go to the mall and not purchase anything.
It is hard, but it can be done.

I'm not a SAHM, but I am home for the summer with Ava, and I definitely find this to be true. I spend tons of money on gas just to get the hell out of the house. I go nuts at home. I also find myself shopping more because there's nothing else to do.

Sometimes, yes. But how can I put a price on adult conversation over a nice lunch, KWIM? We do tons of park GTG and bring our own lunch then, so it evens out.

I seem to spend a lot of money...for instance I spend money on cakes and coffee, and since we have an organic supermarket and a polish deli on the way to any meetings, I find that I can't help buying food and stuff.

When he was younger.... maybe. But now that he is older no. There are so many activities we can do together in the house, going to the park, just playing in our backyard, etc.

at first, yes. i used to go shopping a lot, but then i realized i just can't spend money the way i used to when i had a paycheck coming in so i have cut way back. now we go to gymboree on fridays and a few times a week we also go to stroller strides so we stay busy that way.

me too I agree, even if I set out to do something that is free or minimal $$ I am driving around almost everyday.
Because of my shopping addiction it is impossible for me to walk the mall and not buy anything!  I mean our mall has a Target and there is never 'nothing' that I can't pick up in Target.
Even food shopping, I come home and everytime there is something else I need. So its just another excuse to get out of the house and get it.
But If I buckled down, I could truly not spend so much money.

If I go to the mall I try not to impulse buy which is very hard. Usually, we go to the park or the beach and do things that are free. I try to bring my own snacks, water, milk etc for us and when we do go out for lunch I usually share my meal with Alex. Also, Applebees gives free lunch to kids with the purchase of a sandwich on Mon, Tue, Wed.

Sometimes, I actually just got off the phone with DH and asked him where we should go because I dont want to stay home and he said go to the mall. I laughed and said I dont want to spend money. I can go their and not spend anything but its not the same. If I do buy its almost always on the baby
