Re: RSVP date was Sept 30th.......

I just had this happen. My 1st grader's party was this past weekend. As he has an end of September birthday, we did not even have a class list at the time the invites went out. His teacher kindly distributed the invites to all of the boys in the class. The RSVP date was this past Wednesday. One child from the class responded. The teacher still has not distributed a class list, but she kindly sent home the contact information of all the children whose parents had agreed to a release of the information. I contacted them, some via telephone, some via e-mail. Would you believe that even after I left messages/e-mails, some still did not respond to me. I really just wanted to know how many to expect. No judgment as to whether or not their son was coming to the party. I really don't understand it and I certainly can't explain it. The invitations listed both our phone number and e-mail address. I really can't think of any valid reason for not responding in one way or another.

I actually had started to prepare my six year old for the fact that we might have to cancel his birthday party. I explained it in such a way so he would not feel animosity towards his classmates and he understood, but he was a bit sad as any six year old would be. Fortunately, after my calls and e-mails, we managed to eek out enough for a party and he had a blast.

Ugh Chat Icon

Glad it worked out in the end for your DS !

Ours is at home, so I think people must think " Eh, no biggy", but I still have to plan for food, drinks activities etc !!!

Truth be told I spend more on home parties than it would cost us to have it out , and because I didnt know how many kids to expect I bought enough of everything in case everyone DID show....

So far I have heard from 2 more that I left messages for.......Waiting on 10 Chat Icon

I'm sorry this is happening to you. I could not believe how anxious I was last week over a birthday party. People will probably wait until the day before and call with a variety of excuses as to why they didn't RSVP sooner.

When we thought we were going to have to cancel, we came up with a couple of scenarios to placate my son. His favorite was taking the few who responded to do something a bit more special (in our case, it was going to be Adventureland). In the end, I think he may have been secretly hoping for the cancellation.

No matter what happens, I'm sure it will be a wonderful birthday!

This kills me. The idea that a kid would have a party & no one would show up bothers me to no end.

It happened to someone I know. We were running a few minutes late to the party & the mom called to see if we were coming because out of the small group she had invited, we were the only ones that hadn't cancelled the day of the party. Her son was in tears.

Re: RSVP date was Sept 30th.......

This really burns my cookies. I hate when people don't bother to RSVP and then I have chase them down.

It's not that hard to say yes or no.

I've had it done to me for every. single. party. I have ever thrown.

I know it's going to be the same this time around for DS birthday. What sucks is that I don't have any of DS classmates parents numbers so I can't call if they don't RSVP.

Hope everyone calls and you get your head count.Chat Icon

I feel for you!! I went through this for 3 parties and last year I didn't have any kiddie party for the kids because of it. I felt really bad because only one friend came to each party (same one) because we are friends with the parents outside of school.
I am not sure what you are ordering for food, but if you are doing pizza, I would order how many said yes and maybe add in an extra pie. If you find out more people are coming it is always easy to add in a pie or even just order 1 pie from another place.
