Registering question

Who did you/will you register with? I plan to leave DH home for this one. But I'm worried about my old school mother who is already telling me what I don't need and not to register for expensive things, etc. and it's going to drive me mad! I know nothing about this and this is her first grandchild so neither does she so I plan on bringing an experienced friend along. How did you include mom's but have your space to enjoy it too?

Re: Registering question

DH and I went to Babies R Us to scope stuff out.
My mom is basically leaving me to pick on my own- when I register for real I'll probably bring a good friend

Re: Registering question

I did my registry the first time JUST DH and I as it is OUR child. A few weeks later I brought my mom with me to go over what we had registered for and if there was anything we really didn't need or had forgotten she let me know and we went through the store together doing this.

Not a bad idea. I suppose I can drag DH along - I'm sure he'll be thrilled :). I feel bad and want to include my mother, its just...you know how moms can be! I feel like I have to bring her along since she's helping out so much.

Well why don't you bring DH first to pick the big things and the basics.. furniture, stroller, high chair, swing, bouncer, bedding, a few toys, etc. Then have your mom go with you and fill in all the little stuff ( I think thats the stuff the men don't like since they don't get why you need 1/2 of it)

Re: Registering question

I went with one of my bf's who has a one yr old. My mother was clueless of the baby stuff that they sell now and I figured who better to bring with me then an experienced but recent mother.

Good point, thanks! I have to educate myself on the basics now, I'm so clueless!

Re: Registering question

you can even have your mom do some of the basics that your DH dosen't need to do... like picking diaper bag, bottles, towels, bath, onsies, booties, moniter, medicine/grooming kits, boppy, pacifiers, etc.

Re: Registering question

I went with my girlfriend who has a 4 year old and a 1 year old, and she was my LIFESAVER. She told me all the things that were a waste and things that will be my lifesaver.

Re: Registering question

I am going to register in BRU and Target. I am going with my Mom and sis to register at BRU (sis works there) and my DH gets to do Target. I think this will be the best of both worlds for us.
Make it fun and enjoy!!

I went with my sister. She was so helpful, she has 3 kids, so she told me what I need and don't need. DH would not have had the patience and the two of us would have been clueless together!

Re: Registering question

DH and I went a few times...first to do the carseat and stroller...next trip was the high-chair, pack n play and a few other things. We also found furniture together. Then....we went back and did a whole bunch of stuff...at that point, I asked my SIL to look online at what we picked and give me a review and add/subtract things (since she has 2 little ones). When my mom and I went...I added a few things, but my mom came and looked at the furniture because my parents and DH's parents are buying it for us...so I thought she should see it.

Re: Registering question

DH and I had gone a few times to BBB when we first found out we were pregnant. We really went to get some ideas so we wouldn't be too overwhelmed when it came time for the actual registering (almost like test runs! Chat Icon )
When we finally went to register, we just filled out the paperwork, looked around for ideas, and decided to go back another time, still too overwhelming for DH!
Both sets of parents came to pick out our furniture (they are buying it for us). After that, I went with the 2 moms to fully register with the gun. I registered for all the stuff DH and I had picked out at our previous visits.
Baby Bargains was our bible for most of the stuff. DH is a BIG researcher for EVERYTHING so we knew all the basics of what we wanted. I also asked the sales people there about everything. It took a really long time to do it all but in the end, I am very happy with what we registered for.

We are only doing BBB.

Re: Registering question

I brought my Mom with me the first time. She helped me with the basic stuff that DH had no interest in. Then DH and I went back and did the fun stuff.
