Receiving gifts way before the baby shower...
I'm having a shower in NY (we live in FL) at the end of the month. We have had a few people send us big gifts already to our house (we suggested big gifts be sent to us so we don't have to lug them back to FL), and they also WILL be attending the shower.
Do I send a thank you now or wait until after the shower and mention the gift they got us in the shower thank you? Or do both?

This is just me, but I would do the thank you note now. It will get some out of the way now, and it will let them know that you received the gift okay. You can always thank them again in person at the shower.

I would probably send 2 cards-one now for the gift and one later for attending your shower.
They might even bring a little something to the shower too so you can thank them for celebrating with you and/or the extra little gift/their generosity.

It is exciting! Well, I've been calling them as we receive the gifts to let them know we got them. But I guess doing a thank you now makes sense. I can always send them another one after the shower that says thanks for being there, etc...

Sure, and like Cranky said above, they may bring a small gift to the shower for the wishing well or whatnot, so you can add that in when you thank them for coming!

What fun! I think you need to send thank you cards to acknowlede the gifts as you receive them (even though it's early). And like the other ladies said, you may receive something else from the same people at the shower, so just send another thank you card then as well. ENJOY THE GIFTS!!!!!

I did the notes as the gifts came in just so they knew we got them and it's fewer to write after the shower

We're in NC and having our shower in NY at the end of the month as well. We started receiving the larger gifts here in NC about a week ago and I sent out thank you cards right away. I figure, those coming to the shower might still bring a little something and I can always send out another card later.
