Real Estate Agents - Commission Questions

(1) What is the normal commission for the sale of a home? 6%? 5%?

(2) How is the commission split between a buyer's agent and a seller's agent? Is it usually 50/50?

Thanks! Chat Icon

Re: Real Estate Agents - Commission Questions

I am not an agent- but If the comission is 5%

then it's 2.5% for the buyers agent- which is split with the owner of the agencey

same with the sellers agents split

Re: Real Estate Agents - Commission Questions

Okay, so it's split down the middle. I'm not worried with how it is handled with the individual agencies - just wanted to know if half goes to seller's people and half to the buyer's... THANKS!!

im an agent.. usually commission is 4% with buyer/seller 50 and broker/broker 50 although if the agent is doing very well the commission could be 60/40 to 90/10 depending on the agency.

I'm an attorney, but hold a real estate broker's license. I will be representing myself and my FH in the purchase of our home. I was just curious if my commission as buyer's agent would be half of the total commission... sounds like that would be right.

Thank you so much!

if thats the case, you need to see what the buyers agent commission is at the bottom of the listing. it varies from listing to listing.
