Re-doing Bathroom, have questions....

Our bathroom is original (mint green color!!!) and we are finally re-doing it! It has soap dishes by the sink and a toothbrush holder too.

Do ppl use these anymore? I assume no one uses a toothbrush holder b/c most ppl have electric toothbrushes that don't fit. But what about a soap holder? Do ppl have them or do they just have a fancy liquid soap dispenser on the counter?

Also, in a stand up shower, has anyone installed ceramic shelviing? We don't want anything hanging off the shower head but we want a neat place to put our shamoo and stuff?

Any suggestions??? Thank you!

No to both the soap holder and toothbrush holder. I think soap holders only existed before liquid soap did! I despise when there is a bar of soap in a bathroom at someones house (and this includes my moms!)

When I did my last bathroom, we used plain pieces of marble that matched the saddle to hold the soap and shampoos. This time, I'm not sure what we're going to use, we're actually going to HD Saturday to look!

Probably something like thisExternal Image

we did not put a soap dish/toothbrush holder but we did get teh soap holder and other platform built into the shower into the tiles to have a place to put the shampoo, soap, etc

ETA: HD had them in a cream color and white when i went

Re: Re-doing Bathroom, have questions....

no toothbrush holders that are built on to the wall we purchased matching soap pump and toothbrush holder. this is even in our old bathroom.

when we redo the bathroom i plan on doing the same thing and as far as the shower i plan on a inset area for soaps and shampoo/conditioner and possibly a corner caddy with hooks to hold onto our other stuff.

We have a bathroom from 1952 in our house - its going to be some time before we will be redoing it. It has the toothbrush holders and our toothbrushes have handles that are too big to fit in them. I wouldn't put them in as a permanent fixture in a bathroom.

I bet our houses are from the same builder since we live so close. :) Congrats on moving in!

Chat Icon I can relate; ours is from 1953!

Actually we're redoing the bathroom now (guys are here tiling now!) and we're doing a retro theme with subway tile. So we went back and forth about doing the soap dish and toothpaste holder to keep with the retro vibe. We've been to 4 Lowes, 2 Home Depots, and Cancos and can NOT find a matching soap dish anywhere. We'd have to special order one or get it on ebay.

So, no ceramic fixtures for us!
