I may sound anti-social but how many times in one day do I have to say hello to the same people? I feel like I good morning, hello, good afternoon, good evening, goodbye all day.
If they were coming up to talk I would not mind but it's just a constant hello on the way to the bathroom hello on the way back from the bathroom hello on the way to the kitchen hello on the way back from the kitchen.
I think I may try the smile and nod approach for the rest of today

i think about this too! i work in a long, one story building, so in order to get to the ladies room i have to walk from my cubicle at one end to the bathroom at the other - and i run into about 10 people on the way there, including the receptionist! depending on who it is, i will say hi, what's up, or else i smile, but that's it, no nod.

i think it's strange when i walk past someone in the hallway and they don't acknowledge me at all. however, i do understand why someone might do it - i just prefer to acknowledge with a smile.

Funny you mention this. There is a girl whom I'm "friendly with" that gives me a hard time if I don't say good morning to her.

I am here first every morning and I do not sit anywhere near her. Shouldn't she be the one saying morning to me?

I say good morning or hello to people the first time I see them but that's about it.
