Rapid Stress Negative/24 Hour Positive?
Has anyone had this happen? DS is home sick today. Woke up with 101 fever, was not his usual bouncy self, and my mommy radar went off. Took him to the dr, he said his throat was a little red but he couldn't find anything else, and said it was probably a cold.
There's no way it's a cold. DS is asleep right now, won't eat anything, and it's definitely more than a cold. His breath has that tell-tale "sick" smell to it.
I'm sure it could be a virus, but I was curious. He's only had strep once in his life, when he was two, and the rapid came back positive very quickly.

Rapid Stress Negative/24 Hour Positive?
The rapid test never came back positive for me when I had strep.
But, there are a lot of viruses going around as well.

I once had what I swore was strep- I have had it before so I know how it feels and I could have sworn this was it.
Turns out it was negative both rapid and the one they sent to lab.
A lot of viruses mimic strep

both my kids get that "sick" breath when they have fevers...it could be a virus.

The rapid seems to always come back negative for myself and my daughter, and the lab would be positive. This has happened twice in the past for us. The rapid isn't that accurate in our experience.

Rapid Stress Negative/24 Hour Positive?
DS just had this. He had a 102 fever and had "sick" breathe. We went to the DR, his throat was red so we did the rapid test and overnight test. Rapid came back negative but she still gave us medicine. The next day he was better but still not himself. Then he got another fever a day later and we went back to the DR. Overnight came back negative and she said it's just a virus, stop the medicine and keep trying to get him to drink fluids, etc. It took about 4-5 days for him to feel better. Hope your son feels better soon!

Rapid strep does not come back positive for us, but the 24 hour culture does. I don't find it reliable.

Thanks all. No call back from the Dr., and his fever broke tonight. Guess it was just a viral thing.
