Quick Wedding Related Question

Did anyone not have their dress preserved and cleaned?

A friend of mine told me not to bother because even if it's preserved it will still discolor. She got married ten years ago and just boxed hers away.

Re: Quick Wedding Related Question

I would preserve it if it means something to you. Otherwise just get rid of it.

I have mine 9 years and it's perfect and not discolored. My mom's dress was never preserved and it's a mess.

Re: Quick Wedding Related Question

Thanks girls!
I think i'm just going to have it done. Even though I'll never wear it again and all that money is going into a box up in the attic I can't bare to take it down one day and see it all discolored and distroyed.

I didn't do mine.

My daughter will not be Christened so no use there.

I'm sure the styles will change several times over before she gets married and what percentage of brides wear their mother's dress anyway? She also might not like it or might not fit in it.

Didn't seem worth it to me.

Re: Quick Wedding Related Question

I had it dry cleaned and than my mom actually put it in one of those space saver bags. I might use it to make a christening or communion outfit one day.

Re: Quick Wedding Related Question

I don't know.....my mom did NOT preserve her veil professionally. She just put it in a black garbage bag and put it away. It was so bright white that it barely needed cleaning before I got to wear it on my wedding day :)

Same here. I'm going on 7 years, my dress is still in great condition.

Re: Quick Wedding Related Question

My $3,000 dress from my first wedding ended up on the curb. My $450 dress from my second wedding got boxed and preserved...go figure! Actually it's because this one was a much simpler elegant dress that my daughter may actually want to wear one day.

I agree. And if by some small chance my daughter sees my pictures and wishes I kept the dress, she could have it re-made, probably for relatively cheap by then! Mine is still laying dirty on my guest bed--I don't want to preserve it, I wish I could get some $ for it!! I know I could try ebay, but want to get at least like 1/3 what I paid for it, you know?

I had mine done even though I won't have any children that will wear it or be christened in it.
I have a lot of nieces, some that live in other parts of the country where wearing a family dress is more common.
My nephew's fiance is consideing wearing it this fallChat Icon
