Questions re: mesh feeder

I'm considering purchasing the mesh feeder. DS is almost 8 months old. I've tried a few finger foods like puffs (broken in half), mum mums, and small pieces of watermelon and banana. He doesn't really know how to feed himself yet. Although his pincer grasp is pretty good, he usually shakes the food around like a toy. He seems to think everything is a toy. He'll usually eat something if I feed it to him, but he hasn't quite mastered the gumming part yet.

Is the mesh feeder good for babies who aren't quite eating table foods? How old was DC when you started using it?

What do you put in the feeder? Do you only put frozen stuff in there?

Re: Questions re: mesh feeder

I gave the mesh feeder to dc at 4 months old- as soon as he could grasp an object.

I put cantaloupe in there, watermelon, anything with juice that he can suck out..

He loves it!

Once he realized there was food in the feeder, he figured out how to get it in his mouth!
it only took one or two tries..

DD has been using the feeder for about 2 months now...and shes 8 months now. She loves it. I give it to her sometimes as a desert, sometimes because its just hot out. I think it feels good on her gums. I cut up fruit and feeze it in bags and change it up.

Re: Questions re: mesh feeder

i've given allison the mesh feeder since she was 5 months old. she looooves it. we used to squeeze grapes in her mouth to get the juice in there and she would suck on it sometimes sucking it right out of our fingers!! we were quick to get the grape out though Chat Icon

the mesh feeder is great for juicy fruits/veggies that you're not comfy feeding them just yet. i've done grapes (she chews very well) avocados and apples, although apples weren't a big hit.

allison is pretty good now at chewing. i've given her a piece of banana straight and she'll chew and chew til she can swallow it.

OMG Gavin would go nuts when I gave him mango in the mesh feeder!!!
I used the frozen mango chunks from Trader Joe's...recco from here.....great for teething too!

I would try it and see how he does....

Re: Questions re: mesh feeder

I actually started using the mesh feeder recently (ds is not eating much food he has texture issues) and he loves it! I put watermelon and different fruits.... (my son just turned a year and I tried it at 11 months)
