Do you switch yourself to a day schedule on your days off? or do you still sleep late? how do you transition back? Tell me about your work/sleep schedule!

Re: Question for those that work overnights

I used to work overnights. I kept the same schedule even on my days off.... but then again in those days, I lived at the bar, so it was convenient, lol.

My friend's DH works overnights (he has for years and years) and he always sleeps during the day no matter what day it is.

Re: Question for those that work overnights

when my mom worked the overnight shift

(3 nights a week 7pm-7am) she would come home afterwards and sleep till 12-1 pm and sometimes before starting a shift she'd take a nap

on days off, she go to sleep at normal time 11pm and wake up at 9-10am

she really loved the night shift!!!

congrats are you going to winthrop?

i attempted that, but it doesnt seem to work- my body seems to refuse to get out of bed until after 3pm Chat Icon

I'm not going to Winthrop- right now, this is just for my internship (i'm doing 7p-7:30a), but i figured i may as well try to figure it out now, since i'll be doing overnights when i start anyway.

Re: Question for those that work overnights

Some people adjust well, some don't. I find that I am tired during the day even on my days off, and some days I will sleep over 15 hours if I am working 3 in a row. I do go to sleep on a regular schedule if I am off more than 2 days in a row. Stay on nights for a few months and see how you adjust, and if its not for you, you can always apply for a day position. Good luck with your internship! What area are you working?

Re: Question for those that work overnights

I used to work 9pm to 5am when I worked in television... It wasn't too difficult to automatically switch back to days on the weekends (my weekends started at 5am on Saturdays).. Mainly b/c I'm lazy and I was used to sleeping until noon on the wknds ANYWAY...

You get a lot more hours when you work nights IMO.. It was weird. I found I didnt need much sleep when I worked nights.

My husband has been working 3am - 11am for 2 weeks now and he was up at 7am this morning.. He never has a problem, though he will probably take a nap this afternoon.

My DH actually just got a huge promotion that brought him off the night shift. (I never posted his great news so figured I get it in here) Chat Icon
He worked 3 days a week from midnight to one in the afternoon. Saturday thru Monday. Because we have the kids and he would hardly get to see them he would come home grab something to eat and then sleep until 8 or 9. On his off days he would stay up till 3 or 4 and sleep till noon or so, with the exception of the one day he would keep Damien home with him. He got used to it with in a month.

Re: Question for those that work overnights

My friend is a RN and works the over nights. She usually goes to bed around 9 am and sleeps to around 5. These are the hours I know not to call her Chat Icon Some days she's up early, some days she sleeps until 6 or 7. She mentioned lately that she can't sleep during the day sometimes and it has been hard on her but she is managing.
