Question for BTDT Mommies about Custom Birthday Cakes
I have been emailing back and forth with two different business owners regarding a custom cake for Jordan's birthday. If you ordered a custom cake, did you do a big enough cake for all of the guests? If you had 50 guests, did you have a huge custom cake for 50 people or did you order a smaller custom cake and then another (sheet) cake or something else?
Also, the first price I'm being quoted is $4.50 per serving? Is that the norm? Average?

I'm not sure of our exact price per person because we also did cupcakes and a smash cake....
We had one custom cake (2 tiers) to serve the adults and then maybe 15 cupcakes for the kids (and the smash cake for Loey).
Our cake was not huge at all... you can see it on my FB pictures that I put up today...

Yes, the cake served all of the adults... I think we had like 60-65 adults?

I think 4.50 a serving is a little high. I've always ordered for the number of people I have, and always have extra!! So maybe you could order for a little less?

Is this for a custom fondant cake? A friend of mine who makes cakes quotes people $4-10 per slice.
When we order cakes we've always ordered for a few more than we have and always have way too much left over. Especially if you are doing other desserts as well.

i think my cake was like $2 a slice? but it was a sheet cake with elaborate design. no fondant. and i had 80 people and got a 3/4 sheet cake to feed 75 and we had plenty left over. and the slices were huge.

i would order for less then what you have and $4.50 seems high per person - usually closer to $3 is normal for fondant
i had 50 people for my son's b-day - i ordered a cake for 40 and we had some cupcakes, fruit, and brownies - we had plently left over

Thanks, ladies. I clarified with her through email - $4.50 was for a specific buttercream (2 tier) cake I was looking at with fondant pieces on it. $5.50 for same cake in fondant. Seems high to me
