Question about Zillow.com
It shows the price a house was sold for and then a Zestimate, is the Zestimate what the house is worth now?

I dont think its really accurate...I just bought my house in Feb and the value it has for it is much higher then what we paid and what it appraised for...

Hey! Yes, it shows the price it was recently sold for and then "their" guess as to what it is worth.
Mine changes daily at this point, but it shows what I paid for it and their guess.
It is about $5K higher than what I got it appraised for... but take everything with a grain of salt with zillow. They don't have all the information so you'd really have to build it out. You have to go in and make your own estimates to add in everything you put in.
So if you bought it and renovated it, their zestimate is just what you bought it at, KWIM?

I really wonder how they calculate the values - they have our house listed for $23K more than what we paid for it 2 years ago.

It's their own proprietary formula - but, I think it uses tax information to derive the estimate.
Our house is listed for $51k more than what we paid for it last year. We got a good deal but, it's not worth what they are saying it's worth!

I was thinking the same thing, I know we got a good deal, but I don't think it was that good!

I did mine a few years ago and it was completely off.

I hope ours is accurate!! it shows 91K more than what we paid for it 2 1/2 yrs ago! its funny though, b/c we've done a lot of renovations so far, but its not like zillow would know that, and I don't know if the comparables in the neighborhood are pulling in what they estimate. when you look at the pics they have up, it still shows the previous owners car in the driveway!! so the pictures must be from over 3 yrs ago.

Our zestimate is fairly accurate right now. I think it also depends on the area you are in and how much information they have on that particular area etc.
