Question about feeding and sleeping routines

Emerson is almost 4 months old and I was wondering if she is too young to start getting on a routine. We're trying right now to have her last bottle around 8 and then put her down for the night and so far that seems to be working. During the day though we don't have a routine for sleeping or eating. She eats every 3 hrs. exactly and she sleeps as she needs it but we don't put her down at specific times for a nap.

Should we start putting her down the same time each day for naps and give her bottles at specific times only as opposed to when she wants them? What have you girls done with your DC? Is Emerson too young to be so regimented? Thanks!! Chat Icon

Re: Question about feeding and sleeping routines

Well DS is 3 1/2 months old and although he isn't on a strict scheudle we have a pretty good routine. Here is an example of the day but essentially he goes down for a nap 1 1/2 hours after he wakes and his naps last anywhere from 30 min to 3 hours!! I;ll just say for this example they are all 1 1/2 hours.

7am- wake up, 6oz bottle
8:30- nap
10- wake up, 6oz bottle
11:30-nap
1- wakeup, 6oz bottle
2:30-nap
4-wake up, 6 oz bottle
5- 2 tbsp oatmeal
6- bath
6:15- 6oz bottle
6:30- bed

We were putting him down at 7 or 7:30 but he was giving us such a hard time. We moved up the bedtime and last night he went down without a fuss at all and stayed down all night.

Re: Question about feeding and sleeping routines

i just saw this - thanks! i was wondering the same thing. i really need to get DS on a schedule, now that he is not sleeping as well at night.

i don't even mind a middle of the night feeding (which i know he does not need) but this constant waking just for a paci is killing me!!

i am willing to try anything, i am going to try a schedule kind of like this.

Re: Question about feeding and sleeping routines

I don't think 4 months is too young at all, I think it is the perfect age! Maybe too young for you to be hard on yourself if it doesn't take right away, but the sooner you start trying to regulate it, the better off you'll be. Getting her into a routine before she can stand is your best bet. DS stands up and yells for me when he wants me, so drifting back off is not really likely since he is up. I always think it would happen easier if he was not yet able to stand and come looking for me. Now he walks himself to the corner of the crib while holding on, faces the door where mommy is expected to appear and yells. As cute as it is, it makes me Chat Icon Chat Icon Learn from me!
