Question about Elwood Schools

Just wanted to know how Elwood Schools compared to Northport-East Northport. Which district is more desirable.

Re: Question about Elwood Schools

IMO they are both excellent districts. Elwood is much smaller. Everyone knows everyone there.

Re: Question about Elwood Schools

They're both excellent...Elwood is Blue Ribbon (not sure about NPT/ENPT) and smaller than NPT/ENPT. Both are desirable.

Re: Question about Elwood Schools

My MIL is retired from the district and still subs there frequently.

Elwood is smaller than N-EN however...

because they are smaller they do not have some programs that Northport has like the Baccalaurate program.

they lack a "real" public library... it's in a strip mall, not free standing, programs not a good as N-EN

taxes are higher than N-EN (N-EN has the LIPA stacks and more big commercial real estate so the taxes for the EXACT same house and plot of land is about 20% higher in Elwood schools than N-EN)

but they are smaller and, yes, everyone knows one another.

they are still a very good school district.

My MIL is OOT right now but if you have specific questions FM me and when she calls I'll ask her.

Re: Question about Elwood Schools

I graduated from Elwood schools and I thought they were excellent while I was there. Yes it was small, but since that was all I knew, I liked it.

I don't see what the big deal is about the library. Growing up, there was no Elwood library, so we belonged to Harborfields library. My parents still belong to Harborfields library today, even though they live in Elwood.
