Q about modifying Kit Kat cake

I made it with 9" round pans and it came out awesome. I need to make a big one now though for like 15-20 people. Do you think I can make two 9x13" cakes, stack them and then put the Kit Kats around that? Would it look weird as a rectangle shape? Chat Icon

I think that it will look okay - what if you make 2 of the 9" round cakes

I was going to try exactly that one day, only because I have a thing for the square/rectangle shapes Chat Icon

Re: Q about modifying Kit Kat cake

You may need to increase the amount of batter to fill the 9x13 pans so that the layers are not too thin.

eta From Allrecipes :
one 9x13 pan is the equivalent of two 9inch round pans.

Re: Q about modifying Kit Kat cake

I used to do a version of this cake when I worked in Haagen Dazs with those round Pirouette cookies. it is a bigger PITA to do it with a sheet cake style, but it's not impossible.

actually, I think since Kit Kats are flat, it should look better and be easier than on a round.

just make sure about the height. I think it will look funky if the kit kats are lower than the top of the cake.

and put a ribbon around it. it really jazzes it up!!!

Re: Q about modifying Kit Kat cake

Thanks everyone. Yes, I am going to double the batter. Kit Kats are surprisingly long so I think they will still be higher than two stacked 9x13 cakes, especially after I trim the cakes. And definitely doing ribbon.

I'll post a pic when I'm done. I hope it doesn't look weird Chat Icon . Square I can see but rectangle I'm not so sure.
