PSA - For Those Parents Working in the City - LIRR INFO (updated)
i just read this on a reliable friends' facebook....wanted to share.
The LIRR has suspended all service East & West of Jamaica due to a fire, only one branch is running, the Port Washington one.
not sure how long this will last - but didn't want anyone to be surprised...

Updated with info from LIRR page:
Long Island Rail Road Service Suspended Through Jamaica
Service on all Long Island Rail Road branches through Jamaica is temporarily suspended as a result of a fire at the LIRR's switching tower located east of the Jamaica station. The LIRR is assessing the damage to the tower and the impact on evening service. MTA New York City Transit is honoring LIRR fares between Jamaica and Manhattan/Brooklyn. Click on the Rail tab in the Current Service Status box at left for up-to-date information throughout the service suspension.

My DH already booked a car service home for tonight as they expect this to impact the evening commute

I got this email at work:
"LIRR service is suspended in both directions on all branches except Port Washington, due to switch problems east of Jamaica. NYC Transit is honoring LIRR fares between Jamaica and New York and Brooklyn."

Yes, DH called me. They are looking if buses are being offered.
Otherwise, I have to go get him in the City. NOT looking forward to that. I NEVER drive to the City. Should be VERY interesting!

DH just called me about this. I just looked up the same thing. My dad might have to pick him up in Port Washington then come home to West Islip  if he doesnt find a ride from someone at work.

This is why I'm so glad I don't have to deal with the LIRR anymore.
For those who are contemplting the Port Washington line...beware. It's the only line that doesn't go through Jamaica..but it's always very crowded and doesn't seem to run as often as others!
Good Luck to anyone who has to deal with this!

so how many people am i gonna see on the 3:49 from Penn?? so p!ssed!! now i have to leave work early to get home in time to pick up DS from daycare at 6!!
PLEASE LIRR!! RAISE MY FARE YET AGAIN!
