Pregnancy and Migraines
Hi all, I am from LIW - and just found out I am pregnant! I haven't told anyone but my husband, sister and mother yet (I am only 5 weeks)..but the question I have is about what I can take for my HORRIBLE migraines.
Has anyone been approved for Replax or imitrex while pregnant? My sister was able to take Tylenol with codeine.
Any info will help! Thanks!

Re: Pregnancy and Migraines
I used to get pretty bad migraines as well and this was a major concern when i found out i was pregnant... i asked my dr and he said first to try extra strength tylenol and if that didnt work to let them know and they will figure somethign else out... In the begining the tyelnol worked- which it never did before, then the headaches completely stopped!!

OK, I will give it a try. Is it okay to take in the first trimester?

Re: Pregnancy and Migraines
You can take tylenol throughout the pg. Congrats to you and DH and feel better!! I hope they ease up.

Re: Pregnancy and Migraines
My doctor said tylenol and make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids. I had a terrible migraine for 3 days straight and he said it's most likely from not being hydrated enough, that can trigger it. Feel better!!!

Re: Pregnancy and Migraines
yeah, I agree with the above poster.... dehydration is a major headache cause... and in pregnancy, you should be drinking A LOT.... (I've been drinking over 3 liters a day for months now...)
I haven't taken any meds while pregnant, but I do vaguely recall some posters making a distinction between tylenol and extra strength tylenol... I believe some said they were only allowed to take regular tylenol by their OB
please someone confirm or correct my memory!

Re: Pregnancy and Migraines
Imitrex, Relpax or any sumatriptan type drugs are NOT SAFE to take while pregnant.
I am a migraine sufferer who is also pg and have only been able to take extra strength tylenol or, if in total agony, tylenol with codeine (but I use that VERY sparingly).
I have to say though...that at 12 weeks now, I have only had 2 really bad ones and they seem to be totally subsiding.
I was so paranoid about that because I live for Imitrex and think it's a total miracle drug and was so worried what I would do...but so far so good with the tylenol.
GOOD LUCK and CONGRATS!!
