Pre-eclampsia issues - UPDATE 2/11 - spent day at L&D

I'm 33 weeks and went to see OB this morning. I had protein in my urine and high blood pressure, rapid weight gain and swollen feet/ankles. I have to go back in 2 days for monitoring -- he's concerned about pre-eclampsia now. I'm a bit nervous! I've been on bedrest for 6 weeks, which has helped me get this far.....I'm hoping to hold off until next week, when I hit the 34-week mark where the risk is much lower if I have to deliver. Please send me some good vibes, I'm scared for my peanuts Chat Icon

UPDATE 2/11

So, I go to the OB this morning, and my blood pressure was still elevated and there was still protein in my urine. Also, my feet/ankles are very swollen (more like cankles!). I was sent straight to the hospital -- do not pass go, do not collect $200! I was terrified because I totally didn't expect it. I hadn't packed a bag yet or anything. My OB said it was possible that I would remain in the hospital until I deliver, which could be alot sooner than my scheduled c-section on March 12th if my blood pressure doesn't go down.

So, they had me on monitors, took blood, urine and blood pressure. My blood pressure eventually went down and my bloodwork came back OK. I was sent home and I have to do the 24-hour urine test where I'll have to collect all my urine into a large container and bring that to the OB tomorrow. When they test this urine, it will more definitively say whether or not I indeed have pre-eclampsia and if so, whether it's mild or severe. FUN TIMES!!!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Pre-eclampsia issues

Hang in there! I was showing signs of pre-e around the sametime you were, and the way they worded it to me, was that pre-e can be a long and windy road, where you show symptoms, but it never fully develops or it can be a straight path there.

I also was VERY swollen throughout, and had rapid weight gain and high BP one week, so they thought I was on the road...thankfully, it never developed into anything, and at my next visit the BP was normal again, although the swelling never went down until after baby was born.

GOOD LUCK and HANG IN THERE!

Re: Pre-eclampsia issues

Michele,
I am sorry that I did not see your post until now. I had preeclamsia with DS. Did your obgyn run the 24 hour urine test for you? You have to pee into a container for 24 hours. It will be able to help them tell if in fact you have preeclampsia. FM me if you have any questions. As a precaution don't eat things with salt or high sodium levels.

Re: Pre-eclampsia issues - UPDATE 2/11 - spent day at L&D

I went through something similar. I had high BP and severe swelling throughout the 3rd trimester. At my (almost) 36 week appointment, I had high BP and traces of protein in my urine. I was sent over to L&D. My BP went down and my bloodwork came back ok except for my uric acid level. I was placed on bedrest and had to do the 24 hour urine collection. It came back normal, but the doctors started talking about not letting me go past 38 weeks b/c it looked like I was going to develop pre-eclampsia. Hang in there. I hope everything is ok. Chat Icon
