Prayers for this little birdie

At my parents house today I saw a bird just standing pretty close to me. As I walked closer to it, it didnt fly away, just walked away. So eventually we realized it couldnt fly. Dh and I used a shovel to kind of push it into a bucket and brought it to the vet.

The vet said it looked like it was blind in one eye. They were going to keep it overnight and see what else was wrong with it and if the bird will survive, they will call wildlife rehabilitation.

What was wierd was that they said I couldnt call to find out the status. I wonder why
