post-flight ear troubles?
I always have issues on planes during landing. Ears become very painful and clogged.
My flight landed last night and I still can't hear or unpop my right ear. I have tried all the tricks I found - blowing nose, yawning, closing nostrils and blowing..........no luck.
Any advice? how long will this last? do I have to see a doctor??
I never had this trouble ..usually they unpop by baggage claim.

Re: post-flight ear troubles?
I have no advice for getting rid of it other than just time and maybe some afrin or other decongestant but have you ever tried Earplanes during the flight? I tried them recently when I had to fly with a sinus infection and they were a godsend!
Eta: I have ear issues and once had it last for a whole week after flying

Re: post-flight ear troubles?
Try popping a Sudafed or Advil Cold & Sinus...that helps me when I have that problem.
I've had it happen where I haven't had a decongestant and it will last about a day or two.

Re: post-flight ear troubles?
The older I get the worse my ears get! last flight was hours, not days. Honestly I might call the doctor if it lasted overnight

post-flight ear troubles?
Thank u all!
I didn't do anything but chew gum during flight. No use. It seriously was sooooooooooooo painful during landing. I had just went to doc and she said I didn't have any earwax build up so I'm not sure why this happens
next time I shall try plugs. It hurts even now - like an ear ache
I did take Dayquil because I also feel like I have a cold - which doesn't help matters.
it's just so annoying!
I had a great trip though

Re: post-flight ear troubles?
I know that pain...it sucks...I describe it as someone twisting the tip of a knife in my ear...it even kind of hurts behind my eye.
If it's still hurting, maybe pop an Aleve or ibuprofin?
Sorry dude. I know all too well what you're going through. But hey, at least you had a great trip!!

Decongestant can help but sometimes you just have to wait it out. I had it last a few days once, but I also had a bad cold when flying so that is what caused it to be so much worse then usual.

Re: post-flight ear troubles?
In the past year I had two horrible ear infections which caused my ear to be clogged and would not pop. I tried everything, even going to an ENT to drain them. Didn't help. It was more annoying than painful. Eventually, after a week, it popped on its own.

Re: post-flight ear troubles?
I've always had this problem. I swear if I could just go up to the pilot and tell him to take it easy on the landing so my ears wouldn't almost bleed, I would.
I have to do this whole routine and it's so annoying and it's not even guaranteed. I take a sinus decongestant starting 3 days befor the flight, then I get a nose spray and spray 60 minutes before takeoff then again 30 minutes before.
I'm flying to New Orleans in 2 weeks and I just pray my 20mo DS doesn't have this problem!
Sometimes even a hot shower has helped loses up the congestion in my ears.

Re: post-flight ear troubles?
I used to have this problem all the time. Now I take decongestants a few days before and after a flight. Try popping a few musinex D (not as drying as others) and lots of water. if it doesn't get better in a few days see your doc. Feel better
