Poll: Do you wash your DC's bottles/sippy cups in the dishwasher?
oops, hit enter too soon.
Up until 2 months ago, I didn't have a dishwasher so all bottles and sippys were washed by hand. Now that I have a dishwasher, I still don't put my DS' things in there. I've been anal about washing his things and I feel like in the dishwasher his cups and bottles would be "contaminated" (for lack of a better word) by the food/residue from all the other dishes. I KNOW this sounds crazy. DH wants me to just put his things in the dishwasher, I'm not sure.
Wondering how crazy I am What does everyone else do/think?

I put everything in the dishwasher. Sponges really skeeve me, so I only wash my knives and some dishes by hand here and there.
ETA: The dishwasher will do a waaaaaaaay better job that I would do anyway

I worry more about the soap not rinsing off. So I usually soak or rinse everything after it comes out.
I use method non-toxic soap, but I'm still anal and I'll still at least rinse it.
Also the dishwater washed dishes at a much higher temperature than you can with your bare hands. Ours has a sanitize cycle, so I'm sure that high enough to kill a lot of stuff.
Also, I know of a chef that experiments with cooking in the dishwasher (without soap of coarse) because the temperature gets high enough. I remember things like he baked a cake, lasagna...

Everything goes in the dishwasher. Even as a newborn I never hand washed any stuff.

The dishwasher gets things so much cleaner than handwashing could ever do. I personally would be more concerned with hand washed bottles....
To sanitize sponges, get them a little wet, then microwave them for 15-30 seconds (make sure it's wet, or else it could burn.....)

Most of the time they got washed by hand. We only have a few sippy cups and I will only run the dishwasher when its full so the timing doesn't always work out. I do try to run them through the dishwasher every couple of weeks though because it also has the sanitize feature which I like.

If the dishwasher is going to be run, then we put the bottles and all the parts in there.
Since we only run the dishwasher every 3 days or so, most times we wash the bottles by hand and use the microwave steam bags to wash the nipples and other small parts.

I understand what you are saying. But the dishwasher detergent has some bleach in there and really does kill everything germ related re food residue. Just rinse off dishes to help things work better in there.
Thinking back t hough....As an infant, yes, that did concern me, esp if you had something that went into there with raw meat, etc. So I never put anything in like that. I hand washed those things and then maybe put them into the dishwasher for an extra wash but they were pretty much clean anyway at that point.

its easier for me to just wash by hand i don' run the dishwasher every night so if i waited id never have any bottles or sippys

The dishwasher actually sanitizes things so much better.
Think about it- in restaurants they use dishwashers to santize all the utensils and glasses that everyone is using.
The water heats to a much higher temp then your faucet.
I feel much better when something comes out if a dishwasher than when it's hand washed.
