Poll: Christenings on Mother's/Father's Day

Do you think it's kind of rude to plan a Christening for Mother's Day or Father's Day?

I voted yes because we had a Christening onceon Father's Day, where my sister was the godmother. I was younger and it didnot really bother me because my father was there.

But I remeber a lot of people complaining. Unless all the people invited will have their fathers or grandfathers there also.

Yup...I didn't even schedule Jared's b-day party on Father's Day because I thought it was rude.

Absolutely rude.

Am I glad you brought this up!!

I am going to my nephew's christening tomorrow! I am so angry about it, not because it's my first Mother's Day or anything (but it might have been nice to sleep in or something) but because I can't celebrate with my own mother and sister like I usually do. My SIL said, "Oh I planned it early so that everyone could get together with their own families afterwards." Hello, when?? The party ends at 4pm...not going to be hungry for another big dinner then! She told my other SIL, "I figured I kill two birds with one stone." For herself, that is!

I'm celebrating tonight; boy am I angry!

Re: Poll: Christenings on Mother's/Father's Day

HeyChat Icon I am having my christening on Father's dayChat Icon

I live in CT, and that was the only day I could do it while she was still small enough to fit into her christening gown her godparents bought her.

I have not heard a peep about having it on the holiday. It's prob just because I am not inviting a huge amount of people, just close family and friends.

I don't think it's rude at all, if you have plans for that day, just don't comeChat Icon it's such a hallmark holiday anyways, JMHOChat Icon

i guess i'm in the minority thinking it's just another day and no big deal just as long as the entire family is invited and together...

I totally agree!!!

Re: Poll: Christenings on Mother's/Father's Day

I voted yes. The only way I would be okay with it is if it was a large enough party that no one would be forced to decide between the party and spending time with family that day. My family it probably wouldn't be an issue since it is pretty small that everyone would be invited, but DH's family is way too large to accomodate everyone so people would be forced to choose.

I'm obviously in the minority, but I don't see it as rude. Granted, I wouldn't be thrilled to go, but I would attend and make time to celebrate w/ DH at another time in the day.

I think it's rude in that I wouldn't plan one for myself. I wouldn't be upset if I had to go to one - as long as my mom was ok with it.

Re: Poll: Christenings on Mother's/Father's Day

I voted it is rude, but to clarify if you are having a small celebration with immediate family only then I see it as fine. I would not plan on and expect friends or extended family to attend. It is unfair to ask people not to spend the day with their own families.

last year my parents went to one on mothers day and it was kind of weird in that I really didnt get to spend anytime with my mom. However she said the christening was packed.
I guess it depends on who is invited it may be a good thing if it is just family then you will all be together.

Exactly. There's 3 other weekends in the month. Don't take somebody else's special day away from them.

Re: Poll: Christenings on Mother's/Father's Day

I voted yes b/c those days I know for myself I plan out something for my parents and really its a day for them.
If you have no choice to schedule it on one of those days, I would expect no responses. But you do what you have to do.
