please forgive my ignorance, but are there any beaches on the North Shore that are swimming beaches?
especially in the Huntington/lloyd harbor area?
we are going out to my aunt's house in LH at the end of the month and are bringing my two nieces from dh's side with us.
the little one's birthday is the Monday after and we have begun a tradition of taking her to the beach for her birthday (she loves it). I was hoping to kill two birds with one stone and take her to the beach in the morning out in the area.
I am very familiar with the beaches on the South Shore but not so much on the north.
also, if these beaches exist, will I need a pass of some kind? I assume my aunt could get me one if she is a resident???

There is Sunken Meadown Beach in Kings Park, about 15 minunutes down 25A from Huntington. Its a state beach, so its just the normal state fee to get in.
The only other beaches I know of on the North Shore are town beaches.

Crab Meadow Beach in Npt - Nice area to swim and play.
West Neck Beach
Centerport Beach
Hobart
Askroken Beach
The north shore beaches tend to be a little rockier but those beaches are nice and Crab Meadow is sandy.

You can pay as a non resident but Crab Meadow has a restaurant on one side and you *can sometimes park there and use the beach.
Your aunt might have beach rights to one of the private beaches in LH too. I'm sure you have asked but I thought I would throw it out there.
Hobart Beach at the end of Eaton's Neck is another nice beach too.

Forgot to add...at Crab Meadow...there is a wetlands next to it and yes, they have fiddler crabs.

There is also West Neck beach, which wasn't mentioned. It's another town beach, you would need a sticker on the car to get in or pay a non-resident fee.

we just went there last weekend. (have been before) It's very nice there.
beware, there is lots of rocks, Joey tried to eat one, I've never had such panic in my life.
