placing new kitten with cat?

I just cat a new boy kitten (holden 12 weeks) and I have had a female cat for about 3 months (she is 11 months old). They dont get along. Of course I know they wont get along in one day and I havent really put them together yet. But I have one room for him to sleep in during the night and one room for him to play in during the day. When Phoebe comes and watches at the doorway with the door slightly ajar, all she does is growl.

How long is this process? I have had cats before, but I forgot how long this takes and if they will even get along.

i had the same situation, my female cat is 6 years old and my kitten was 7 weeks when we got him, she hated him!!! i kept them away from each other when i wasn'y home and after about 5 days i took his blanket (with his scent) and placed it under her food dish...she still ate-no problems. then i slowly let her around him, but only when i was home, it took about 3 weeks for her to really adjust to him. good luck!
