Photography Moms: Another question from a photography student (me!)

So, I have the Nikon D60. I have the 18/55 lens and the 55/200 lens. What would you recommend for my next lens and why? Also, I got one response about a lightweight but sturdy tripod, but are there any others out there that you like?

One more--I have an older Canon Rebel Film SLR--it has the standard 18/55 lens. IS it worth getting an upgraded lens for a film camera, IYO?

Thank you photography Moms!

We need to really rally for a photography board!

I think you should get a 35mm or a 50mm. One of those is going to be my next lens.

(I actually do not want a photography board, I think that it would become a big drama with what post go whereChat Icon )

Really? Even for technical questions?

You're the only one who answers my photography questions, so maybe we don't need one after all! Chat Icon

What are the primary functions of these lenses (if you don't mind answering a whole bunch of q's, I can just google...)

Chat Icon I'm the only one awake. lol.

With these lens you have to get real close, they don't zoom at all, but the quality of the shots are great.

Yeah, I guess for technical questions it would be great, but I think it would be a fine line b/c then would picture posts go there, etc, etc, you know?Chat Icon

I would get a fast prime lens. 50 mm 1.4 or 1.8 is great. very easy lens to use, you can work in lower light conditions and et some really cool bokeh

Don't consider myself a photography(er) mom, but I'll answer anyway Chat Icon

Agree on getting the prime lens. I love my 50 mm f/1.4. A 35mm or 85 mm lens is also a nice choice. It's all a matter of preference.

I got a 35mm lens for Christmas for my D60 and I love it. I am definitely still new at this but it takes amazing shots.

50 mm or a 24-70mm. Depends on what you want it to do.

I agree, I have both of these myself. The 50mm is muuuch less expensive. You can get one for about $110-$325 depending on which one you get.

The 24-70 is about $1600.

I think every photographer should have a 50mm, its a great portrait lens.
