Photo shop help PLEASE

I am trying to edit a document that was scanned in. How do I delete say a number and add a new one?

You'll have to fudge it because Photoshop will not recognize the text.

You can paint over the existing number in the same color as the background - or you can use the clone tool to clone from another area if using a solid is very noticeable.

Then using the text tool re-type what you want. You may have to fiddle with opacity of the layer, or a grain filter to help it match the original text (if that matters to you)
