Anyone been successful with the open market system in the DOE? I'm considering applying for some positions closer to home (districts 25 or 26), but wasn't sure how likely it would be that i could actually land a position there. If you have transferred through this system, did you just send your application through the system, or did you also contact the schools directly?

My advice would be to email the principals directly in school s you are interested in.

Re: open market? DOE

I did open market 5 years ago and got several interviews just by using that alone. I love where I am now. I was very selective to where I applied. I know that my school always looks for people through open market when there is a position opened.

I would do both...some schools look at open market and some don't. Also, if there is a school you are interested in I would contact the principal directly because not all positions are always listed on open market.

Thanks everyone- I e-mailed a few principals in schools that are in the Floral Park/Bellerose area.

if anyone here is reading this and has an opening in their school in Queens (district 25/26 preferred. As close to Floral Park as possible!) please let me know!! I am 7-12 Math/Special Ed Dually certified with with Junior High Experience and some HS

I'm in a D25 Middle School - they can be really tough to get into. Like others said email Principals directly. I am not sure yet if we will be hiring math or special ed - which are you tenured under or have been teaching under? If you switch your license you have to go through tenure again or wait longer so keep that in mind.

I'm not tenured- i will be next June. I plan to switch only if I get offered a Special Ed position, as that was what I was hired under. If I don't get offered a spec. ed position, then I will stay where I am until tenured and then try again at the end of next year

Do you know if your school is hiring for science? My husband's school is closing in the Bronx and he is interviewing for positions in the Bronx now but really wants Queens. He has 9 years experience and was previously a lead teacher so I feel like he deserves to land something good once and for all!

I did 2x. I emailed the schools directly and applied through Open Market. Send a resume to any school you might consider working in.
