Open house or agent?

How are you looking for your home? Or if you are already in a house - did you use a real estate agent or did you mostly look at open houses? Which is the best way to go?

Re: Open house or agent?

We worked with an agent who showed us about 10 houses 4 of which not in our price range and all of them were CRAP. One day she turned to us and said well thats all I have and never called us again. Chat Icon I guess she didn't want to make a sale! Its not even like we were that difficult it was more like don't show us crap that smells like mildew and or stale ciggarette smoke.

We started going to open houses and found our house through the open house search on MLSLI.

P.S. "our" agen stll hasn't called us Chat Icon

Re: Open house or agent?

We used multiple agents and attended open houses. If one agent didn't show us what we wanted, we moved on.

There are some really crappy, lazy obnoxious agents out there.

If I saw a house on MLS I would call that agent and have them get us in there asap..sometimes the agent will have exclusives that you will only get to see with their agency

If there is a house out there in my price range that is priced right and it good shape, I want to be the first one to see it.

I went to open houses, I hated working with agents. They dont work for you and I hated the constant phone calls and games.

We did both but ultimately found our home thru our agent, before it even hit MLS.
