ok..please explain this to me..am I doing something wrong?

My babies are soppose to be feeding three hours apart.
say I feed them at 12.00 am...should it be taking me 1- 1 and 1.2 hours to complete that feeding?
now its 1.30 am and next feeding is at 3.
If it is right..how long does it last?
is there a good book for twins and schedules and all that?
also...are those good times or do any of u have better schedules?

tia!

Sounds right to me. I BF in the beginning - doctor said that until the babies reach their birth weight you must feed them every 3 hours (wake to feed). Once they reach their birth weight, they will wake themselves to eat - eventually this was 4 or 5 hours in the night.

Are you BFing? I would usually do the 3 am feeding with a bottle - put them both in the Papasan and feed at the same time - one night I had it down to 27 minutes! Then right back to bed. Are you feeding them at the same time? That makes it go faster than if you feed one, then feed the other - before you know it it's that 3 hour mark again.

The first 2 weeks I remember being really rough - they would cry until the next feeding sometimes and not go back to sleep in between. Hang in there. Chat Icon

that is about right every three hours, my girls came home on a 4 hour schedule. I don't know of any twin schedule books, sorry. It will get better. Chat Icon

Sounds about right. Could you possibly wake DH to come down and feed the other one while you feed one. That is what we did so the feeding would take us 30 minutes, but then i could get more sleep. About 5 - 6 weeks i started propping their bottles......it saved my sanity.

Yes, we did every 3 hours and since they take a while to feed, it is a very long process. It will feed up before you know it, don't worry!Chat Icon

As crazy as it sounds... the feeding schedule sounds exactly right. There was never a break in the beginning. I mean if I wanted to go to the bathroom sometimes I had to wait a couple of hours.

Propping the bottles helped. I use the milkmaidmilkmaid

Also breastfeeding was a good break, because you never had to wash/sterilize a bottle and you could feed them at the same time.

Hang in there... it gets better.

Re: ok..please explain this to me..am I doing something wrong?

When my girls were in the nicu they told me the feeding for each DC should only take 1/2 each..so if you are feeding one after another an hour sounds right. But i would invest in the pillow with the hole so one can feed themself. Also are you waking the babies to feed at night? Once they reach about 10 pounds i wouldn't wake them if they are sleeping i would let them sleep. Thats what i did and before i new it they were sleeping through the night or I would give them their last bottle at 11:30-12 and they would sleep until about 4-4:30..I needed that stretch..good luck

Unfortunatly it sounds right in the beginning I felt like all I did was feed one, then the toher, pump and start all over again.

It will get easier, they will start taking less time to feed once they get the hang of it.
