OK So I've posted how I plan on going into the city tomorrow...
I told DH about it and he said he doesn't like the idea of me and DS going alone on the subway. My mom feels the same way and has said she is coming with me. I know they care but I kind of feel like a little kid being told that he can't go out and play or something. I have to be able to learn to do things on my own sometimes...No? otherwise i'll always have to depend on people whenever I want to do something. I appreciate my mother wanting to come, don't get me wrong and the help always comes in handy especially going up the stairs on the subway. But I do need to do things on my own too.
Even when I go to the park and I tell DH that I took Matty to the park he's like "oh did your mom come, you's went by yourselvesf"...what the F*** man...I can't handle taking my son to the park??? If she wants to come my mom is always more than welcome to come to the park with us but I want it to be because she wants to have fun with my son and not because she is afraid of me and DS going alone. Again I appreciate the concern but give me some freedom...
Now I feel bad telling my mom that I want to go alone. Then I would look like the bad guy.

I was going to say the same thing!
I know he's just concerned, but you can't rely on people all the time to do things.
Obviously you are pretty comfortable with the city since you used to work here, so I don't see there being a problem. It may be easier since it's your first time coming to the city with DS and she can help you up the stairs and stuff. But, honestly, I have done it by myself and it's not that big a deal.
I also live close to my mom, so I know how you feel

I was going to say the same thing!
I know he's just concerned, but you can't rely on people all the time to do things.

Actually i've been to the city with DS when he was about 2 1/2 months. That was his first time. DH and my mom came with me. DH was off for the summer and it was DS's first trip so that I understand. So I know my way around the city. Like you said, I used to work there. I really wanted to do this by myself. I would love it if my mom were coming becuase she wanted to but she is coming because she doesn't want us going alone. God I should have kept my mouth shut...

why don't you say something like "mommy, you don't HAVE to come if you don't want to. I'll be OK." Or you could say "would you mind if I went with Matty alone? I want to catch up with some of my old coworkers and don't want you to get bored."

Your'e right I am going to try saying that. It's true she'd probably be bored. She doesn't understand english much so besides playing with DS she'd be bored. Then having her there would be kind of distracting because my son is attached to my mother's hip. With her there he'd only want to stay with her and not go with anybody else.
It's funny cuz ever since my dad hasn't been feeling well because of his romatoid athritus she feels bad going out and leaving my dad alone. When we asked her to come to the zoo with us on my son's first birthday she was like "I don't know if I can leave your dad for a lot of hours, he needs me". So now she's willing to leave him alone to go to the city???
