ok, since the "search" feature SUCKS, a bizarro update on my Etsy issue UPDATE 8/17
the seller never got back to me with the completed design and it was "due" Friday.
now, on one hand, it's great b/c I averted a close call.
but on the other hand, a seller accepted a bid, biting off more than she could chew and didn't get back to me at all. this could potentially bite someone in the asss, especially if that someone isn't as insane as me and didn't start the planning process months in advace.  
so, should I let it go or report the person? 
I REALLY want to let it go but is the a jerky thing to do? or is it jerkier to give a struggling artist a bad review?

so I am glad I didn't just give a bad review. she finished the job and emailed it to me this morning.
it's definitely NOT what I wanted but I can tell she really tried her best. I just paid her and will be done with it.
I would say she did not understand the scope of what the job would entail on the Prince's end and I won't penalize her for that. the end product was not terrible and truth be told, I could have gone back and forth with her and I know she would have bent over backwards. I am just not willing to do that. hopefully my brother will have something better for me.

Let it go. Since she didn't respond, you don't have to pay the $$.
If you make a big deal out of it, all that it will accomplish is her looking bad, and you giving her money for something you won't use.
This is a 'blessing' in disguise!

I have had the same problem with many Etsy people recently. Only I had to go through the hard task of getting my $$ back and paypal is pretty unwilling to help after 45 days. I would want to know if this is how someone operated. The struggling artist should have gotten back to you. I think that was "jerkier" of them to do that to you.

this is how I feel. but you don' think it's "bad karma" to have another person potentially put in the same position.

Did you already pay for it? If not, I would email her or message her on etsy that she didn't deliver the proof in time and you will no longer be needing her services. If you paid, I would for sure ask for your money back and leave an honest review.

No, I don't think it is bad karma to put someone else in that position. I'd just feel that hopefully she's learned a lesson to not chew off too much in the future.
For something like this, i'd just let it go and be done with it.

I don't think it's jerky of you to leave a bad review. It's definitely the socially resonsible thing to do- esp if she may leave someone else in the lurch. Just bc noone else left her a negative review doesn't mean that it's never happened before.
If she was that much of a struggling artist, she would have gotten back to you.

honestly, I would give her a bad review. Not just for the sake of being mean or a jerk, but bc the purpose of them is to let other consumers now who is reliable and who is not.
Honestly, I saw the invite and Im not sure if she is trying to pass herself off as a graphic artist, bc it really looks like a project someone would turn in on their very first graphic design assignment ever.
I think so someone else doesnt end up wasting time or paying for a cr@p job, that I would leave a negative review. I mean, you would just be being honest.
I think she was being dishonest by trying to pass herself off to people as someone who can do graphic work.

I would leave an honest review. If its negative then so be it. The point of the reviews if for future "clients" of her to know how she does business. I ALWAYS read the reviews before I order from anyone on etsy. I hope people are honest and not afraid of hurting the seller.

I agree, i would let it go. I to have had a hard time with PayPal after 45 days. They are more than willing within 45 days

I agree with those who said that you should give a review- an honest one. When I buy on these sites, I rely a great deal on past feedback so I think it's important to share, good or bad.

honest reviews are best. I have a side business..I deal with lots of people. I appreciate feedback good or bad. Honest reviews..not reviews that angry and not objective. (Is it like ebay where you can leave neutral feed back?)
I would simply say that the designer was late with the proof, but delivered in the end. Simple..lets people know that the person may be late regardless of what her turnaround time says.
Honestly, I am not familiar at all with La Petit Price story. Maybe I should be..I dont know how popular this story is?? So if this were me I would have to do some serious research first to grasp the scope of what you wanted and i would have informed you that I would have to do that.
From a graphic perspective, that invite design is juvenille and I hope you can find something better. I also hope it wasnt a ton of $$

Is he touching the hot candles???  All jokes aside, I think you did the right thing... but should give an honest review.
As the wife of a graphic designer I can tell you that my DH would 1st never be late on a project (and if something was taking him longer he would contact the customer way before the deadline) and 2nd never send something that looks so unfinished. Sorry you're out the money.

ITA and about touching hot candles
I've had 1 not so great experience on etsy and 5 great ones.....now I go by the reviews more carefully and communicate a lot more w/the person before making the order

I don't know about what kind of review I'd leave. I usually feel bad about stuff like this but maybe she should have been more honest about her talents. Hope your brother can help you out
