Ok, ladies, I'm really nervous....

Went to dr. this AM-not pregnant, which I already knew from taking the HPT yesterday. He said AF should start today or tomorrow.

So, he's starting me on injectibles the day after AF starts. He's giving me Gonal-F, one other thing (forgot the name) and Ovidrel for trigger shot. DH is going to give me the shots.

I'm really scared-I don't do well with needles and any new meds terrify me because I imagine the worst case scenario. In this case, I'm worried about ovarian hyperstimulation.

Can any of you give me any helpful hints for dealing with this part of the IF saga? Any side effects I should be prepared for? Any that I should be on alert for that could mean something serious?

I really appreciate all of your help-I don't know what I would do without you guys!!

Don't worry! You'll be fine. I would literally RUN out of the room when someone came near me with a needle. Now I just roll my eyes. Its nothing, you'll get used to it.

I had no side effects other than the fact that my stomach looks like I swallowed a basketball!

Good luck to you!

I agree w/ this. I did an IUI in december using gonal-f and ovidrel. I hyperstimmed, though my dr. was monitoring me very closely. It was painful but more than anything it was uncomfortable. Gerty and many others told me to drink a 50/50 mix of water and gatorade and that did help. It is def. more common w/ PCOS though--- this time my dr is putting me on 3 weeks of BCPs and adding lupron before the gonal-f and ovidrel to try to not have me hyperstim. GL!!!

Thank you both so much for your input; they did tell me to keep well hydrated so I will do that.

I do not have PCOS so do you think I'll be ok?

Re: Ok, ladies, I'm really nervous....

Gonal made me very bloated, but aside from a dull headache the first couple of days, that's the only side effect I had from it. My nurse told me to drink a ton of water to help with the bloating, and it worked! I even managed to lose 5lbs during my stim cycle! I think the water and my excercising helped a great deal.

Hi there. Don't worry. The anticipation is worse than the actual shots. Drink plenty of water. I've never had any side effects from any of the stims I took. Good luck!

Re: Ok, ladies, I'm really nervous....

I did Follistim (similar to Gonal F) last month with Ovidrel trigger. It was no big deal. The needles are tiny and I hardly felt them. DH did it for me every night and I never even bled or got a bruise. I had ZERO side effects on Follistim (meanwhile Clomid was horrible for me) and took the shots for 8 days. Best of luck!

ETA: I did not get OHSS but did develop 2 luteal cysts which forced me to take a break this month.

Re: Ok, ladies, I'm really nervous....

The idea of the needles will make you nervous. After your first shot you will realize that its painless and easier than you thought. I did them in my thigh and my stomach. To be honest I found I had better results in my stomach and it was easier for me to do it there (but I'm sure it was just the month I did it I got good results). Just follow your instructions with the pinching of skin and then let it go. I never felt anything bad. Once I didn't wait for the alcohol to dry on my stomach and that stung. But, I realized right away what it was.

You will be fine. G/L
