OK fess up what " little white lies" do you tell your kids ..

so they wont completly melt down .....

mine are ... its broken ,,daddy is going to fix it

oh its dirty we cant play with it yet

they are going home coz its their nap time




and the worst part is i dont feel terrible for doing it ..right now as im just so tired i dont have the energy to fight it

Ohhh I use the "Its broken" and the "its dirty right now" ones allll of the time!!

Whenever we pass Mcdonalds or chuck c heese and she asks to go, I say "they're closed right now"

There was a post on this a few mths back with some pretty funny responses.

When DS wants to watch elmo for the third time that day I will say the TV is sleeping or it is taking a nap.

You can't have ice cream and skip dinner.

If you just eat ice-cream w/o dinner you can get very sick... pukies.

Watching tv after dinner...

You can't because everyone on tv is having dinner with their families and then they are going to bed.

Let's see how long that one lasts

Going to our neighborhood farm to see the animals...

Can't piggy is sleeping/napping/inside the barn eating his breakfast/lunch/dinner.

That I have no idea where Daddy keeps the batteries!

That when you walk into Target there is a big sign that reads "Little children must sit in the seat in the cart"

That you only get to use the stupid carts with the car on the front at the grocery store when its your birthday.



Oh my....I probably could stay up all night working on this one!

I'm sure there's plenty more, but the one I use the most that comes to mind is that his Tickle me Elmo and Elmo Live are "sleeping" so I don't have to listen to the annoying laugh

there are tried and true- many of which my mom did to me:

"the man"... as when in a restaurant.. if you don't stop acting like a maniac the man is going to come over... (we have no idea what the man is going to do- but the man is enough to set her straight)

stores are "closed"... even when open.

certain activities are "against the law" and the cops will come and give us a ticket... not wanting to get in the car seat is a big one.. but also eating chocolate before 11am..

for a while we used "batman" too- if she didn't do what we said batman was gonna come.. not sure why she didn't like batman at the time, but this one only lasted for like 2 months and then she figured he never shows up so why be nervous about it.

yeah, i know- not exactly Dr. Sears parenting tools... but they work for us.

Old lies that no longer work now that they're older but that may work for others:

Restaurants have spanking rooms.
"Quick, you need to behave, I think the waiter has the key."

The candy at the checkout counter is for employees only.
"Yup, that's right. When you're older, you can get a job here & you'll be able to eat that candy."

I don't have any money on me. (ok that might be true since I rarely carry cash with me).

They stopped letting kids have parties at Chuck E. Cheese. (later, I told them I lied. and if they *REALLY, REALLY* wanted it there, we'd do it).

I tell DS almost everyday that the animals in the zoo are sleeping so we can't go
Also, when it is time to turn off the TV, we tell him that Caillou (or whoever) went nite nite!

Noggin is sleeping right now. Also to get him to take a nap I tell him teddy bear wants to go to sleep so you have to go to sleep to.

Unfortunately, too many! My most common line b/c DS LOVES to watch the train and any time we walk anywhere we have to stop there and wait for the next train. So i tell him- the train went to pick up daddy and it won't be home until tonight

Everytime we passed CEC my nephew would ask to go. I always told him they were closed and when he would ask why the cars were there I would tell him they were the cleaners.

I have a friend who used to tell her daughter that she had a lie detector kit under the bathroom sink...she always fessed up...lol.
